Not asking about legality. How would you feel about learning that a friend was having sex wth his first cousin?

In the US, before the mid-1800's, first cousin marriages were legal in all states. Now, in a bare majority of states, sexual relationships and marriages of first cousins are still legal. And in the remainder of the world, first cousin marriages are legal. . . and even encouraged in some cultures. The incidence of genetic defects in the offspring of first cousin matings are only slightly greater than the incidence in the offspring of unrelated couplings.

Assuming that first cousin marriages were legal where you live, how would you feel if you learned that one of your best friends was having a sexual relationship with his or her first cousin? Would you accept it, condemn it, be grossed out, or remain entirely neutral on the subject?

First cousin sexual relationships are disgusting and should be condemned!

  • I don’t know where all of these ideas came from. that I couldn’t accept to continue being friends with her.
That happened to my two best friends in HS. She married her first cousin. We were still only 18-23 or 24 years old.

she Ms. A and another girl Ms. K. used to play tennis or do whatever other activities with her first cousin who was 10 years older. They both wanted the guy. They both came to me separately to talk about these.
she ended up winning and married her first cousin. Ms. K joined the navy and no longer fiends with her.
we have not talk much since last time she told me she got an abortion not because of the first cousin thing. It was too much for me as a young woman trying to grow up to be listening to drama or pregnancy, abrogation, first cousin marriage, friendship broken up because of a man… so I slowly drifted away…I had to handle the world of school and my own family and understand the world.
Many times, I think to myself, if her families are okay with them together, who am I to judge. Still, I can’t help that feeling of wrong or gross. Also I really don’t want to know about their sex life.

  • I wouldn't care it's none of my business and besides I can't exactly pass judgment my grandparents were second cousins on both sides of the family. I've never looked at my cousin's in a romantic or sexual way but I'm very much aware that we are very attractive individuals. I have also had male cousins have crushes on me but thats as far as it went. My love for them was on a brotherly term. I do have a lot of handsome and beautiful cousins. If one if them were to date the other... Well so be it... More sexy offspring to add to the world lol 😆.

  • wouldn’t want to hear about it lol

  • I'd be disgusted. I'd rather not know whether they're doing it or did it at some point.

    • I think of all my cousins as brothers and sisters even though I barely spent time with them in childhood and haven't hung out with them in ages. They're still like siblings. Soz when I hear something like that, it makes me sick to my cousin

    • Sick to my stomach* 🤣

  • None of my business but no. I’d try to at least convince them to keep relatives and relationships separate, I’d do it in a nice and fun way

  • I'd support them; no issues.

  • Probably disgusted
