Because of the inconvenience of having to wear towels and tampons to catch blood etc. coming out of it and the pain and discomfort of it- for a lot of ladies... That's why it's a 'source of suffering'- I was kind of joking but you see what I mean? And it's not that a vulva is ugly it's just that we associate it with periods- which are supposedly an ugly thing we should hide... Kind of... It's complicated and I'm rubbish at explaining stuff!

You wear a tampon all of 3 or 4 days in a 30 day window. C'mon... gimme a break that it's about the period. No I have 8 day periods where I have to wear the most absorbent sanitary towels you can buy and change them every 45 minutes. I can't wear tampons because my vaginal muscles are so sensitive my vagina basically closes up, so I can't do that unfortunately. Yes, I do have problems and this isn't really common... But the side effects of my menstrual cycle are actually really hard to live with... So for me, it's not pretty. But it should be.
