I can't excatly give an opinion based on personal experience on this topic as I've only ever hooked up once, and it was a set up a friend did as a favor for me to rebound from my first boyfriend who cheated - stupid and immature of me to seek revenge, I know. I was the one who woke up first and left as I felt regret and disgusted of what I did, casual sex was never a thing I did again.
In my opinion it's because the majority of men know how to divide the intimacy away from such an intimate physical bond... and like to avoid any intimite situation they don't actually care for. Is it a biological thing, perhaps so... but I know a handful of women who see sex differently than I do and are the early birds in a casual sex situation as they like to one up the guy in leaving him in the dust than him leaving her.
Men can have sex without any emotional attachement. Women mostly can't (although some do). That is why men want to leave and do other stuff after sex. Women want to talk an cuddle or are hoping for him to show interest and will see her more often. Of course i am generalising here. Biology has to do with it. Men have the instinct to have sex with as many females and spread their seamen. Females have the instinct to hold on to one male and get babies from him. Movies are a bit exaggerated or portray only stereotypes but it does have truth in it.

Women are looking for the emotional connection. Most women want the security and comfort only a male can provide. Men are more physical. After a one night stand a mans lust has been fulfilled. They don't require the need to be loved the same as a women. One of a million reasons casual/hookup sex isn't for me.

Much of it is biological and it's also a bit social/environmental. Boys are taught from their older brothers and friends that just pumping and dumping is cool. It depends on how they're raised and their experiences too. Guys who are more respectful and patient (not talking about the spineless and thirsty guys) would rarely leave a girl after sex and they tend to be more introverted and care more about school/career and family. I've been liking the introverted, mature guys a lot more lately for that reason and because they are more likely to leave me guessing. Definitely boyfriend material. Of course, they will still want sex... every guy likes sex so that's the biological aspect of it. But they won't hurt and use girls for their own pleasure. That's the social/environmental aspect. There's nothing wrong with casual sex but I don't like when it comes to a point people don't even want to form deep bonds anymore and see everyone as someone to fuck.
