Sexual Health Why is masturbation forbidden in Islam?

i am a muslim. and i just can't understand why it's haram. you're not having sex with anyone. you're alone. and if it's the only way you can get rid of your sexual tension then why is it haram? i researched a lot trying to find the answer. i am arab so i searched for arab articles too but all they ever say is it's haram and they mention the hadeeth but they don't say the reason.. i don't do it. because i know it's haram. but i want to know why that's all. zina is haram because you're sleeping with someone else and that can cause many bad thing in the society. if she gets pregnant for example, diseases and other things. but if someone is alone why is it haram. i am religious and love to learn about islam every day. but i don't understand this one thing. only serious answers please :]

11 27No, its more of a last result kind of thing. You can do it but not abuse it ("in case of emergency break glass" type of thing) the act is seen as "powerful" in culture and is why it needs to be handled so rigidly. Islam's holy books do have scientific/psychological undertones, the religion stems from smart people. Some of its content is likely to be formalities in my opinion, other parts are based on science and cam be proved by empirical evidence
Some might see it as "abusing" on self in Islam, its manipulating an act that is sought to be left for the husband i suppose. An orgasm is essentially a mans gift to you it seems. Experiencing one before him is kind of ruining the surprise maybe? You also sex is for procreation in your culture much like christianity right? so its kind of cheating getting the pleasure without committing to the whole job. Lastly activating the sexual side of you is irreversible its harder to control once youve started than never doing so presumably. These aren't my ideals by the way, even though the jest for some do seem like it could help for a lot of people's situations.
In the christian Bible there's only one (very poor example) of an indication that masturbation is wrong, and it has to do with "spilling the seed on the ground" which was a sin because the guy. Onan, was doing it did INSTEAD OF getting his new wife pregnant, because he didn't want her. In this instance it was saying MALE masturbation was wrong, but it was probably restricted to that occasion. Never-the-less, because Religious people LOVE to tell other people what to do, the Christian churches tried to say it was a sin.

Well since your term means "forbidden" in Islam just like what it meant in my religion, however that did not stop me from doing it. Now I look at it this way. If your "God" is going to send you to hell for masturbation then "kind, loving, forgiving" goes out the window. I admit I do not know anything about Islam as a religion. Only what you typed in here as a reference.
I will give you this advice, and you can take how you want to. If you want to masturbate but are afraid of getting caught due to your living arrangements or something of that sort. If possible, go to a mall, find a bathroom in a Macy's or something like that, lock the door and do it. Nobody will know unless you say. If however these options are not possible, I do not know what advice to give you. I feel for you, as many religions around the world say the exact same as yours regarding masturbation and sex.
because its a sin. its a sin that all this vital energy is not shared with othes and is kept for your self. but this other should be your legal husband/wife.

Im too, i think that if you masturbate frequently this will reduce your willness of having sex so when you get married you will be reluctant

Religions typically want more members. They do this two ways: conversion (which, incidentally Islam is a big fan of pursuing by the sword) and encouraging members to have kids. If you ban masturbation you give people a BIG incentive to get married and start having sex for sexual relief. Bingo--more kids and more supplicants.

Why would it not be relevant?
100% serious answer. Most if not all religions are an attempt at creating a sense of morality and comforting guidance in a world that's honestly far to complex for any one individual to wholly understand. So a lot of their laws and ideas about right and wrong are arbitrary and rooted in the personal inclinations of whoever the religious leaders are at the time. The truth is the totality of the universe including the existence and possible will of a god (whatever their name might be) is far out of reach for humanity and most likely will be forever. Are brains main objective is to contemplate what is necessary to survive as we are. Yet for centuries we've tried often unsuccessfully to transcends these mental barriers. Because from birth we're taught to look up to our elders and we hold closely to the belief that they are wiser and would never lead us astray we often accept their teachings as truth when more often then not they're partial truths at best. The reality is humanity is blind to the entire truth and will most likely always be. So trust yourself and learn to live with consequences of your actions without fear whatever those consequences may be.
