I first heard about this a couple of days ago (I watch WION a lot for news), and I have to admit I still think it's completely nonsensical and ridiculous. Avatars are NOT you. They're fake facsimiles, representations, an image that appears online to stand in for you because you yourself (the real you) cannot be there.
That being the case, it is not possible for a person to be raped when they're in Zucker's Metaverse. I mean, it would be like a cartoonist drawing a representation of him or herself on a piece of paper, someone else coming along and doing something sexual with it (like using it to masturbate with), and then the cartoonist thinking that he/she had been "raped" because of that. It makes no sense. The online world is not real, and it never will be.

What this does do is have a huge negative impact on the technology.

it also means that more draconian rules will be required to pretty much keep order.

The concern about this is that it will become almost the norm with gangs roaming the virtual streets / landscape and doing this to anyone.

Also, picture the scene you get this for daughters birthday and have a family trip in to ‘Metaverse’, then some guys get your daughters Avatar and do this stuff?

There is a push for a lot of standards and what would be online regulations with emerging virtual tech and games / metaverse etc.

@AvaOneLasTime Exactly, there's so many violent games out there, where do you draw the line between what's acceptable and what's going too far? I think as long as people have the option to power off on their devices and leave the room, they're still in control. I'm sure the website will have to just make changes so their users can use the website without interruption if that's what they want to do.
