I've been with my boyfriend for about 3 years now, and the other day I gave him a blowjob. Two days later I got a cold sore. I HAVE NEVER HAD A COLD SORE BEFORE! could he have given it to me through oral sex? When we first got together, we got tested for STD'S and came back clean, but during this three years, I have gone away on vacation a few times, and I worry that he slept with someone while I was gone. This cold sore thing only validates my suspicions. Is it possible for a cold sore to just show up on its own, or do you think he had/has the herpes virus and gave it to me during sex?

getting a cold sore doesn't mean you have a std but if you do it is probably herpes but but you could catch herpes from not even sleeping around you could catch you just from shaking someone's hand kissing someone on the cheek you can catch it from a lot of things... if person that has a outbreak doesn't take care of themselves or if they don't keep their hands washed or tend to their bumps during a out break can pass it to you... did you see any bumps on him when you was down on him? I have a friend that got it from shaking someone's hand... he has never had sex before and now he is too embarrassed to talk to a girl because of it

I really hope I'm jumping to conclusions, but it seems like too much to be a coincidence. I understand the herpes virus can remain in remission for a while, but we've been together for 3 years, so I would think that if I was the original carrier of the virus, that it wpuld have showed up in that time.

Yea. I ended up talking to him about it, and he said he gets cold sores every year since he was a small child. So I'm assuming that I did in fact get it from him, but not for the reasons that I was originally thinking.

Ok! Don't give oral while you have the cs not get one while he has it. This is very important, it'll become a genial herpes if you do.

Sometimes the herpes virus lays dormant for a long time.

The more likely reason? Neither of you were tested for herpes during your STD screening. You are only tested for this if you specifically ask for it. And even so, all it can tell you is if you've been exposed to the virus through antibodies in your blood. It can't tell you where you have it.

He likely had herpes already when you two got together, either on his penis or his mouth.

It could be just a crazy coincidence but I would get the cold sores checked anyway before going off on the guy and jumping to conclusions.

Many people have been herptastic since they were infants, and never have outbreaks. This is hopefully just a coincidence, go and get tested.
