My girlfriend's vagina smelled like ammonia (ozane)?

Last time when we had fun in bed for the 1st time, I was about to give her pleasure with my tongue. But as my head was about to approach, I suddenly felt this smell. I think it was like ammonia.

  

I think this is the same smell when you have rotting pad or tampon in a trashcan.. 
I asked when she had her period, she said it ended 5 days ago. And she said she uses tampons. She claims she keeps good hygiene about it (washes and changes frequently enough) and his ex did not complain anything. Is it normal? Or maybe she is doing something wrong? 

I have been with two other girls in similar situation: one was actually a model, but she smelled nice. She did not smell anyhow bad. Then there was another who was actually on her period, and I asked her to sit on my face (yes, that is a fetish "face sitting" google it) and this 2nd girl had the similar smell. 

It was really awkward to her because I had to refuse "licking" her.

The ammonia smell is typically form concentrated urine, she need to keep clean with pure water (without soap or soap without additives). Also drinking more water in her daily diet will help making the urine less concentrated and hence have less ammonia odor.

If the smell is new, the standard rules of any change in odor or amount of vaginal discharge and she need to see a doctor.

Diet issues , the doc told me I need to drink more water it helped clear the ammonia smell
