Did YOU know that semen may potentially have antidepressant properties in it?

lol yeahhhh

Is it really a mood booster?

Potentially! There’s some research that shows there could be natural antidepressant properties in semen.

These may include:

endorphins
estrone
prolactin
oxytocin
thyrotropin-releasing hormone
serotonin

A 2002 study conducted by the State University of New York at Albany surveyed 293 college-age females to see if exposure to semen, without the use of outside condoms worn on the penis, affected their overall mood. (link to study: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/11324581_Does_Semen_Have_Antidepressant_Properties )

According to the survey, those who were directly exposed to semen showed significantly better mood and fewer symptoms of depression.

However, this study should be taken with a grain of salt.

"These data are consistent with the possibility that semen may antagonize depressive symptoms and evidence which shows that the vagina absorbs a number of components of semen that can be detected in the bloodstream within a few hours of administration."

  • I LOVE "The vagina absorbs... semen... in the bloodstream within a few hours of administration."😳😆😂🤣🤪👍

  • I totally agree with this...

  • This is a really poor study. The Beck Depression Inventory is an invalid, unreliable self-report that has very high face validity making it easy for the test-taker to create a desired response bias. The "control group" (condom use) is inadequate since an additional control group (no sex) would have accounted for the effect of the sexual act on reported depression. The study reeks of experimenter bias. The results are useless.
