Do you think just because you became a legal of age person it gives you right to do things that are not appropriate just because of a piece of paper?

Do you think just because you became a legal of age person it gives you right to do things that are not appropriate just because of a piece of paper?
I mean like when teenagers became legal of age and they alreayd believe they can do anything cause they are already "grown up adults" because a paper says it so, but they still behave like a boy or immature person. I mean one day you turn legal of age but just one year before you were a minor and just for 1 year difference it does not make any difference from 17 to 18 (in some countries legal of age is until you are 18) for example or from 15 to 16 (in other countries) but many believe that a piece of paper says you are legal you can do anything but the actions you do are nothing far from being responsible and an adult.

What are your thoughts?

My second cousin turns today 18 and in our country he is already an adult and will get his ID and also can already apply for a license driver. But even before he turned 18, he did things that adults did only that he did not have a paper to proof it so or do be it legal. He alreayd knew how to drive, he already was having sex and wathcing porn ( I mean I know this is normal in teenagers and kids obviously that is natural to every teenage boy out there). Actions like that and many others out there. SO now that he is 18 im sure he be happier than ever that what he did in the past as a minor now he can do it legally just because he is 18.

I mean does a number makes really a differnce whether you are an adult or not in the way you act and behave? I know there are certain actionsa dn things in life that being an adult is really necessary for legal documents and other stuff but if you are still a kid and immature from he inside and act irresponsible, what is the big deal of becoming an responsible adult if you still do stupid dumb things.

  • I used to ride a motorcycle, at the age of 16. The legal age to do that in my country is 18. People mature according to their surroundings. Suppose, you live in a neighborhood where from the beginning of your childhood you saw people using cheap tricks to dupe people because it was difficult to earn money at that point. You tend to become cautious (if your gaurdians guide you properly) of such people and also you have some of the tricks up your sleeves while being in that neighborhood.

The above scenario was when your parents are sensible and taught you what was right and wrong.

It is quite common for parents to ignore small hints thrown by their child which gives him/her to commit something which is not approved by society.

Being 18, I went to college, which totally had a different environment. I met new people, it went to a different city for studying. It was life changing for me in a year.

  • Nothing gives you a right to do inappropriate things but then again nothing is stopping you either.

To me age is a number and legal age is a social norm built by humans and humans by nature are ignorant pretenders so very few of their social creations actually hold any real value.

I believe in behaving according to what you believe is right, regardless if it actually is or isn't. After all you don't know what you don't know so all you have is what you actually know.
And we all define "inappropriate" in our own way.

  • Age is just a number. Being mature is a choice. People can be mature at the age of 12, some of them at 40.

in my opinion, legal is just a term to set boundaries over some people so they do what other people on their same ages do especially the minor one.

I mean every people have the rights, there are laws anyway. If you think your cousin is pushing off limits you can just report him. But if it's just dumb thing that some stupid people do, let him be. He'll understand one day. Soon.

  • I think the legal age was determined by the bell curve of when people started to quit being quite so childish.

    • and still once a person is an adult some, still behave liei a child

    • Yeah which makes it also quite frusterating to grow up as a kid.

  • I always tell my clients that having the legal right to undertake an action does not mean it is the right thing to do.

  • I was just thinking about this... no... most people aren't adults til they are much older. should be responsibility tests...

  • Legal is legal 🤷‍♂️

    • But there are adults who act like kids and for me a number is just a number For some things sure the number is important like to open a bank account or financial or legal stuff but for other things regarldess how old you are and if you act irresponsible u are acting like a kid

    • At some age you have to draw the line.

  • Hell, no. People in their 30s and 40s don't have their shit together. It all depends on the person. But, unfortunately, it's the people who are daily making dumb mistakes who are less willing to listen to anyone else.

  • Agreed children should be working aged 11 and married at 12.

    • I agree

  • Yes that is what 'right' means. What they do with those rights is upon them, what are you suggesting? Are you going to regulate what everyone does and what is right for them according to what you think they should do? Seems authoritarian.

    • I never acted like a irresponsible once i bemcae of legal age but some people still do they believe that just a number makes them mature and grown up. What is the difference of one year apart from being a minor to become an adult if you are still behaving like a kid. Maybe in number u are legal but if u are still acting like a kid u are still a kid

    • This is why there are things like driving tests and restricitions and tests on what is accessible to normal people ie guns. Rights are pretty basic, they dont give you access to much apart from the ability to better control your life. Come up with what you're suggesting in more clearity because you seem authoritarian, and I am not that sure if it's great.

  • Well here's the thing you need to draw the line somewhere. Like how old do you have to be before you're legally an adult vs being a minor?

18 is that magic number and for the USA I think it's because most people finish high school at around 18 so that could be why.

Cause once you're done with high school you can start working if you wanted to and that makes you an adult.

  • legally, yes it means that.
I think you are driving at a different point however. responsibility.
Every freedom we have comes with responsibility.

All too often people are not taught as kids that concept.

  • What is your point?

  • Till people have hopefully learnt enough lessons then when they get older but many young think there indestructable

    • I agree totally many young they are indestructable like lets say male teenagers who can't wait to be legal of age to have a car and start driving like there is no other day. Why the rush

  • Absolutely not, we were born honest. It is our responsibility to stay honest and do the right thing because we do know what is right and what is wrong. It boils down to just common sense 🤣🤣🤣

  • Maybe. People mature at different rates.

  • Depends on what it is.
