Do you think men should get a Vasectomy after age 50?

Or after they've had three kids?

And do you agree with making abortions illegal?

"An Alabama lawmaker has proposed a bill that would require a man to undergo a vasectomy at age 50 or after he has fathered a specific number of children."

  • No, because that is stupid. First off, the argument for abortions being wrong is because your literally murdering a unborn child and has nothing to do with being female beyond the necessary requirements for getting pregnant to begin with.

Second, your pregnant (barring rape (abortions due to rape occurred less then 1% of the time)) because you chose to be pregnant and their are many many different forms of birth control out their.

Third, this is not even remotely equivalent as again, in one you choose to be pregnant and you choose to get an abortion. In the other you do not choose to be male and you do not choose to be of a specific age.

Fourth, this would have not impact on the issue of abortion as most women get an abortion in their twenties and are usually childless (the exact opposite of what is being suggested).

Fifth, unless it is being stated that 50 year plus men are impregnating these women against their will, its completely unrelated and has no impact.

The only equivalent here, ironically, would be to make child support mandatory as it forces men to take responsibility for their actions. The reason why this is ironic is that men already are mandated to pay child support, even if they had not consented to the sex, were of age, or had their genetic material stolen (thanks to the court ruling of hermsmann vs seyer). So in fact, banning abortions is the least sexist thing one can do given that men are forced to take responsibility and by banning abortions you are now forcing women to also take responsibility for their actions just like men i. e. equality.

    • Actually the equivalent is a potential law that controls a persons body and freewill.

    • Not even close. Did she not choose to have sex? Why does free will come into play only when its convient? She chose to have sex, she chose to not use the pill, the patch, subdermal implants, IUD, diagphram, female condom/male condom or even the god damn pull out method. Those where choices so saying hey, you just chose to murder some one so now you have to suffer the consequences for it, is not an attack on free will, its placing responsibility upon the person. That's why you support men having to take responsibility and pay child support, that's why you claim its an attack on their body never mind that you are advocating for being legally allowed to chop up SOME ONE ELSES body, never mind that you chose to get yourself into that situation. Its got nothing to do with free will because you have it, its got nothing to do with your body because it was self inflicted and that baby isn't your body. What you want is to throw a temper tantrum act like a shitty person, not take responsibility for your actions and then play the victim the moment some one calls you out on it. Grow up. If your not capable of taking responsibity for your own life choices, then you don't deserve to make those choices, its that simple. So as I said, men have to take responsibility, and the law to ban abortions finally forces women to take responsibility for their actions too. That's not a violation of your will or body or any other bullshit excuse, that's equality.

    • You realise that not everyone can use hormonal birth control? And condoms fail... Even birth control fails... It happens more often than you think. The government should not have a right over anyones reproductive system end of. I'm not advocating anything I saw it and I asked for opinions on it. A fetus is connected to the body it is a part of it until birth. It cannot survive outside of the body. You are the only one throwing a temper tantrum here buddy.

  • Yeah I'm gonna have to say no on that one the government shouldn't have any business in regulating or controlling my reproductive freedoms or organs.

    • Thanks.

  • tbh it's a personal choice to get a vasectomy or not. And abortion should never be illegal because it will only increase the rate of unsafe abortion which could lead to death (which normally doesn't happen if you perform it in a safe and correct way)

  • No, I don't think that should be required, if that's not something the man wants to do. That's hugely invasive, to force someone to have a surgical procedure. And no, I don't believe in abortion.

  • The state should not intervene in reproductive issues. Abortions should be legal.

  • Over 50 most can't get it up and few capable of getting a girl og child bearing age anyway. Much better to give vasectomy at a young age to the criminal classes to stop them reproducing

    • So I have no children and I am 40. Would you give me a Vasectomy?

    • She probably would personally do it herself

  • This topic has been introduced before, but my opinion remains the same: America loves to cut on male genitals, or at least propose it. Men don't have rights to their own bodies straight from birth. Forcing a vasectomy, even as a proof of point bill, is just more proof.

  • If so, then women should also, after two children, have their tubes tied.
Wait, isn't that against several laws, and the CONSTITUTION, and personal rights?
Are we talking about China, or the US?
    Who is paying for that?
I don't think anyone should have more than two kids, now, with over-population, but it should be up to them, and maybe some legal restrictions, not forced surgery, that could potentially kill someone if something goes wrong!
But some might make it a RACIST ISSUE!! Some, non-whites, have a lot more than 2 or 3 kids, so what about them, and isn't that "RACIST" to limit them? What about Religious Freedom?

  • No, it's his body, unlike an abortion, which is NOT her body.

    • Absolutely

  • That would be so ridiculously unconstitutional to never even get passed.

    • Yet women lost the right to an abortion?

    • No they won't lose the right to an abortion for the same exact reason: A 10th Amendment right to privacy which was the basis of Roe v. Wade. But, my point is that even attempting to craft such a law would require sufficient votes (that will never happen) and, if it did, would require an executive signature (which it wouldn't get), and then the law would be enjoined in court and the legal system would take several years at best before it got to SCOTUS and was shot down by a majority male US Supreme Court on the basis of privacy on the 10th Amendment. But it wouldn't even reach that far because the law wouldn't survive strict scrutiny because the government could accomplish its objectives without resorting to that discriminatory law. Seriously, this is among the stupidest things that I have read in 2020. Keeping in mind the idiot we have in the White House, that says something.

When you quote something, you need to specify the source. At 22, you should know that. What is the URL to the source of this quote?

  • Abortions are wrong and the vasectomy should not be required. Abortion terminates a life and honestly a vasectomy should be voluntary, you can have as many children as you want but you can't terminate them in the womb

  • I’d never be so ignorant as to tell an adult what to do with their reproductive organs. I’m aware it’s certainly none of my business and not anyone’s decision to make but the person themselves.

  • Just like abortions for women it is HIS body and his choice. Provided the respect for this goes both ways it is all good.

    • Why wait even that long? I did mine at 30. One ankle biter was enough

  • logans run. men at my age tend to know how not to have kids. i would say money spent on this legal crap would be better spent on the education of the young and also making birth control freely available. its the tack we took here in the uk and our teenage pregnancy figures have finally started to fall

  • No that’s no one else’s right to force a guy to get a vasectomy

  • Guys should have a vasectomy if they believe that's what they want to do. It's his body after all. The same with abortions. My future husband isn't in luck though, for I want 5 kids 😅

  • Overpopulation of the whole planet is a problem, but I don't think forced surgery is the solution. I also think abortions should never be illegal, but don't want to get into a debate about that!

Here's a good way to fix overpopulation:

Your first kid- free. School, college, health benefits, public services, the works. All free.

Second kid and on: You pay for everything. EVERYTHING. No tax breaks either.

Make elective surgery for both vasectomies and tube tying (also free) optional but desirable.

Yes it does open a loophole for wealthy people to continue overbreeding, but think about it- they will only overbreed their own class, not the low and middle class pools. Their own greed will be their undoing.

    • And their kids (after the first one - considering we talk about the low class) will pay dearly for 25 years long just to get some basic freedom and claiming the normal living standard, that the middle class was born with.

    • @Unit1 That's a whole other issue - it's not fair that some people are born low, born middle, or born high class, but it happens every day. The solution is unattainable - no classes, the upper classes and uber rich have made sure of that, so there's little chance to fix it other than complete social revolution world-wide. I'll hold my breath and wait for that to happen...

  • Not sure it's much of a problem after 50

  • only really sounds good for the people who live on welfare. with almost no plans to better themselves for the sack of the families. but instead expect the government and tax payers to give them hand outs most or all there lives.

if they force guys to get a vasectomy at or after 50. what will happen to all the gold diggers who try to get knocked up. by older guys just to then have a chance. at the guys fortune and stuff?

what might be a better idea is to go back to how it was in the old days. where only kids born in wedlock (marriage). are counted as legitimate heirs to the family. to either side of the families money, stuff, business and power. because then if you want your kid to have a bright future. you'll have to get married to someone with some kind of influence.

kind of like how they did it in game of thrones. where kids born out of wedlock are viewed as bastards. with no claim to the family fortune.

  • I believe that this law maker is absolutely insane.
If abortions are to be free and a choice, give men vasectomies for free and as a choice.
Regulating people to such a degree is just going to increase the civil unrest and distrust in the government.

  • I don't give a shit.
    Not my business.

  • I'd agree to the vasectomy thing if similar women get sterilized, too. And I don't agree with making abortions illegal.

  • And this is how North Korea indirectly captures a piece of land in the USA.

As for me - Disagreeing on both.

  • Forced sterilisation, basically? That's inhuman. So are abortions, but I don't think they should be illegal simply because it's not a realistic position.
