Yes, I believe it is... Because:
1. a lot of men have that girl on girl fantasy, think that's hot but think it threatens their manhood or that people will think they're gay if they openly accept/support gay men...
2. Women seem to be less judgmental of gay or lesbian relationships (and no that doesn't mean that all women secretly bisexual, just means I personally myself can accept other women for their sexual orientation and know it's no reflection on mine)
3. Men are more harshly judged/held to a higher standard of what's considered "masculine" behavior and accepting gay men is considered "unmasculine" by some (which is utterly ridiculous)
There's probably more reasons I missed, but this got long enough...

But a relationship with them: I would feel like they have desires I couldn't fulfill which is why I need a relationship with a heterosexual male to my heterosexual female self

Definitely. Men are expected to adhere to those toxic ideas around "what it means to be a man", which includes rejecting any aspect of their feminine side, which is seen as being "weak". Thankfully those stupid ideas are now finally dying out, at least in the West.

it was illegal until fairly recently (in scheme of things) in most western countries.

it still is illegal in a lot of other countries.

Yes. For most of recorded history, women have been portrayed as sexual objects, therefore it's not as great a leap to imagine. During the Roman period when men were seen as the sought after physical beings, bisexuality and homosexuality among men, didn't carry the same stigmas.

No. I think it was hard for both - men are expected to be the alpha male and the breadwinners and the breeders of children or whatever whilst women are only expected to please their husbands and carry the next generation. Lucky those expectations are changing now but they’re still around in many areas sadly

Not gay at least.. men find it exciting if a woman also wants sex with girls, but many do not accept/understand that a woman does not want dick. Though, gay men probably experience more violent hatred.
