Do you think there's too much weight added to the idea of virginity?

This was inspired by my previous question.
In some religions, virginity is seen as a way to preserve ones innocence and often stress to wait until marriage.
Some people still uphold some of these values and remain celibate until the right person comes along.
However I was watching a YouTube video where some men were discussing virginity. One said it better to get the first one out the way and stated that losing isn't a big deal.

If this was case, why does society deem it to be strange if a person still has theirs past their young adult years?

This can add too much pressure surrounding the subject of sex which often ostracise people- whether its within a platonic or romantic setting and based on relatability.

What do you guys think?

  • No, I don't

  • yes. Way too much

  • Nope. its scientifically proven that the first sexual experience is very important in setting the tone for future sex life.

    • I agreed, because its something our bodies must adapt to in order to do it for real..

  • Way over valued.

  • I don't, I think it's a beautiful pure thing

  • A woman's Virginity was important in past for marriage reasons and there are major valid reasons for women in the past to hold on to their virginity until the married reasons such pregnancy, unsafe abortion, ineffective contraception, STDs, no paternity tests, no welfare etc all of which is now addressed by modern medical science and by soceity.
Religions and soceity used to ostracise and shame women who lost there virginity and had premarital sex to discourage young women from getting pregnant to a man who who wouldn't marry her or to avoid having a kid without knowing who the father was, it was a crude way of doing this, mostly effective but biology eventually wins.

  • Religion is why I wanted to be a virgin; science is why I stuck to it. Which isn't surprising as much of the commandments found in Leviticus are good suggestions to prevent the spread of diseases.

  • I can only speak for myself and to me it''s just way of seperating the girls from the skeezy hoes. But even that's not totally true. Vaginally she could be virgin, but still be a chickenhead for every other giy that comes along.

  • Yeah because to me, it’s like buying a new car before u get to actually drive it. U don’t know how it drives/rides or if you’ll even like it in years to come.

    • Good point

    • Ha thanks.
