It's very rare that I say this, but if you've known each other for over 10 years and both of you have feelings for each other then go the distance and wait a little bit longer until you get married. The experience will be very different if you do that as opposed to having sex beforehand.

I slept with my long term friend as both were singles. I tried to gain distance for a while to her after sex, because I didn't want any romantic feelings from her side. Fortunately she didn't develop any.
