I can't get an erection anymore do to heart meds? Any suggestions?

I've been taking pills for high blood pressure for some time now. I haven't been able to get hard, at all, in over 5 months and have been told that this could likely be a permanent situation.

On top of this I can't use Viagra because I had an allergic reaction, and I'm afraid to try other ED medications. I know that I can't the only guy in this situation. I'm single and haven't had sex because of this, and dating has been awkward. Also, masturbating is pretty much impossible. Opinions and suggestions please.

  • I was prescribed meds for depression which had the same result.. I stopped taking the meds and worked on solving my own depression. If you are over weight and sedentary maybe if you ;lost weight and got in shape your blood pressure will get bck in the normal range. Maybe talk to your doctor and he might be able to prescribe a different medication.

    • Thanks, I'm working on all that, but I guess they have to be careful when stopping BP meds because you can have a stroke or heart attack if you just stop.

    • yes, but keep working on it. I have known people who have lost weight and had thir blood pressure go down enough so they can get off meds. My doctor wanted me to start taking blood pressure meds so I lost some weight and ratcheted up my workouts. I also stopped watching the news. My bloood pressure was good the last time I went to the doc.

    • I will

  • Not sure I would be asking on here as something could react poorly with your heart meds man.

Have you gone back to your doctor and asked if there is an alternative to Viagra?

Just make sure you check things with your doctor first before using anything someone suggests on here.

That being said, I feel for you dude.👍

    • Yes, I have consulted my doctor and I will continue.

    • I figured as much, just don't want someone getting hurt on here trying something new.

  • There is a suppository that you insert into the urethra for erectile dysfunction that works in a different manner than the Viagra-like medications. It is called Alprostadil. You can look it up online and of course it requires a prescription so if you want you can talk it over with your doctor.

  • I've heard BP medication does that to men. That's why it's important that as you get older you maintain a solid weight and physical fitness and try to cut more junk food away. I don't know if it's possible to come off of the BP medication if you become fit, but I'm certain you could try asking your doctor about it.

Just an idea of course I don't know if you're fit or not?

    • You are right. I'm trying all, but they apparently can't just stop my meds. I guess I could have a stroke or even a heart attack.

  • Have you tried to put a rubber ring on the base of it? It obstruct the blood flow and might make it hard ish. I have no idea, just spitting ideas.

    • It was suggested to me to try a penis pump to get myself hard and then use a cock ring to maintain the erection. I ordered one and I'm going to try it. What do I have to lose.

  • if you're getting blood pressure meds, that means your heart is fucked. question is: is it unfixably fucked or can you get fit and healthy. if you can not get fit and healthy, i guess the question for you is: do you wanna die of cardio vascular disease or have a boner? your choice.

but the best advice i can really give is: ask your doctor and not a bunch of internet buffoons like me.

    • because even if someone found a solution for themself doesn't mean this solution can apply to your health situation.

  • talk to your doctor about it

  • Really serious,. Must consult sex specialist

  • Hearts are more important than erections.

    • You are totally right, but it does feel weird not being able to perform. I know that it's not the end of the world, and not less of a man, but it's difficult.
