Before Y2k many thought that doggy style means anal sex. And yes, there was some hint of taboo.

After Y2k almost every teenagers watch porn before their first sex. While some still felt it as "dirty", many had accepted it as one of the regular sex acts.

Today is past 2020. And Covid-19 lockdown has either made couples who stayed together more bored, or those who stay apart felt deprived.

in my opinion, anal sex is now "butt play" (with the availability of butt plugs). Hence, I think it's so common that it's "just another sex to try" (after all vanilla sex).

I don't think it's taboo. There are some people who have an aversion to the idea who will never do it, but most others have at least tried it. I'm pretty sure all of my friends have, but not all of them like it, but some do. With the right guy it can feel really good and it can actually be really intimate. And the orgasms are intense.

It’s certainly commonplace and not taboo. I think most all of my friends have tried it and it’s considered a place you get to in a relationship. From things I’ve read here the average age for first trying it is around 15-16. If that’s true it may qualify for the vanilla label. For me, it’s still somewhere in between.
