Interesting question... depends on the porn. At the moment I'm studying women in literature, and currently looking at this sort of thing. A lot of women fantasise about sexual surrender to a man, but modern me too has narrowed a lot people's perspective on what is a socially acceptable. Modern feminism seems to condemn these sorts of fantasies. Controversial... but surely part of what makes sex so fun is that it's a bit forbidden and dangerous? (assuming both parties trust each other)

I guess it's empowering because it's letting women enjoy sex but also not empowering... because the it raises unrealistic expectations. I once spent about half an hour explaining to a male friend that he can't just randomly have anal sex, the girls he sees doing that have already been preparing for half an hour.

Then again... I don't even know why I'm answering this question... I'm not even a feminist.

It's not the worst question. In theory, the right to choose is an important mandate of feminism. But it gets complicated because often the reasons that women get into this are complex. They don't just "love sex." They don't have other options, other skills. Or they are very money-focused, and this seems to be the most efficient way to make a bunch with only a few hours/one day's work. But of course this type of 'work' isn't an investment in a future. It's short-lived gains. And often ends with a host of health problems.

The problem, then, would be the economic situation that drives women to sex work, if you see sex work as a problem. Patriarchal social structures create a situation wherein a given women is taught that her looks are more important than her skills, and end up in college with no real direction or prospects. The issue in matters of choice is that in some situations there is only the illusion of choice. Sure, you can choose not to work, but then you have no money and no home. Sure, you can choose your insurance now, but if you get sick you have no choice but to rely on their services. So the issue goes far deeper than whether or not women just love sex.

Yes, of course porn can be feminist. I know a lot of women, and they all watch porn. If women make porn for women, I contest that that is feminist porn. Men can be included, but if women have the power it is by definition feminist.

There are two thoughts on this, sex positive feminists say that it's her body her choice. If she wants to do anything with it she can. The other group feels that porn reflects poorly on all women. And that porn itself is harmful.

For a question like this, you really need to look at it as feminism in its broadest sense. Equality and freedom. So long as a woman isn't being forced by a man into doing it: its not really feminist or anti feminist. It just is.

Cultures being different doesn’t mean you can’t have a proper definition. You can’t agree with others who also want the label them that means you’re different ideologies. But feminists can’t even agree to disagree. They will take pride in wearing a label that means nothing rather than delineating themselves.

Because they are people. This is what people do. Ask any two Christians what they believe in enough and you'll find that everyone has a different idea about what Christianity is. Feminism is by definition equality for women. When people say "Femenism to me means..." they are adding the extra stuff in, which is okay... they are explaining their beliefs.

You can pick a definition for Christianity too. Just because a bunch of people call themselves Christian doesn’t mean they all are, the difference is that I don’t care. If someone wants to call themselves Christian when they’re not, I couldn’t care less. Saying you’re a feminist is like saying you’re religious, it’s so broad that no one knows what it means, except that you’re not atheist. Even the definition you stipulate isn’t good enough. It doesn’t stipulate what a woman is, nor what equality you had in mind. It’s like saying you’re religious when that doesn’t tell me if you’re a Buddhist pacifist or an Islamic radical who’s going to behead me. What’s different about feminist is that they all act like they’re all under the same banner, when they’re really not under the pretense of “whatever it means to you.” Well tell you what, I’m a feminist now and what it means to me is subjugating women. Are you going to tell me that’s not valid?

In my opinion, porn is mostly catered towards men, and the women in videos are often degraded or treated as objects. While this can go both ways and there's nothing extremely morally bankrupt about it, it's not feminist in any way.

In a way yes, before women didn't have the right to wear shorts skirts on tv or be in a sexy role so in this way then porn can be considered feminist (since women had to fight for doing this kind of role).

It depends. In a way yes because they make money without a pimp, and empower themselves and thanks to the internet can do it safely. It isn't ideal and many do it because they are forces to financially and the idea of staying home is better than being at risk of men in public. They have more control so in some cases it is an act of feminism. In many many other cases no. The industry is not good and women are at risk.
