  • I think it’s a complicated topic. In some ways it is harmful to women, but in other ways porn is blamed mistakenly.

Sexually aggressive men are likely to watch porn, that doesn’t mean porn caused sexual aggression. When you look at countries where porn is banned and you compare them to rape and sexual assault statistics, you’ll see that in those places the number of sexually aggressive men is often higher than in places where it’s legal.

Forced-sex fantasies, as others have mentioned, are more common among women than men. There was an interesting book I read called “My Secret Garden” by Nancy Friday, written in the 70s. It’s a book filled with sexual fantasies of different women. Many of them are forced-sex fantasies. I never knew this was a thing until a girlfriend told me that was her fantasy, and she wasn’t the only one to tell me that.

I’m not buying the sexist attitudes part. As porn has become more easily available, our culture has become more feminist. There are still sexists and misogynists, but less than there were decades ago.

Lower likelihood of intervening during sexual assault probably has more to do with men being encouraged to be passive and non-violent. A lot of modern men are soft. They’re afraid to step in more than anything else.

I’ve definitely spat on, slapped, strangled and gagged women during sex. I’m into BDSM - as are they, it’s always 100% consensual. I didn’t just get into that because of porn, again, to begin with a girlfriend asked me to try that with her because it was her thing. This woman is speaking about this assuming that it’s non-consensual or that women are forced into it, but if anything in my experience I’ve actually heard more women complain that their boyfriend won’t dominate them in the bedroom even when asked to.

The porn industry itself really is bad for women though. There have been plenty of examples of big porn sites like pornhub hosting videos of underaged girls and not taking them down when this was reported to them, and videos of girls who were trafficked. Depending on where they work, some pornstars really are forced to do things which they never agreed to do.

  • Pretty sure sexual assault cases are higher in countrys that porn is illegal so I'm not sure that holds up this said the porn industry does have a lot of abuse like a lot of other industrys and that must be fixed properly obviously only people saying otherwise would be an Andrew Tate fan but I doubt the porn itself as a concept is the worst thing also the BBC point in the pic doesn't mean much without content one of my female friends is into being choked so saying people have been rough in bed is more or less just pointing out the bdsm community

  • Porn teaches men how to be trashy towards women, yes, there's no denying that.

The sexual acts in porn after all are 100% fake so men watching it actually think that size & girth truly matters - because the porn industry picks the biggest dicks, not the best guys - whereas any woman who isn't some cheap sleeps with anyone who says hello to her whore would tell you no dick size/girth isn't that important.

The sexual acts in porn after all are 100% fake so men watching it actually think that lack of consideration such as lack of foreplay, etc. is okay whereas any woman who isn't some cheap sleeps with anyone who says hello to her whore would tell you a guy who doesn't consider foreplay isn't worth the 9 months his mother wasted.

The sexual acts in porn after all are 100% fake so men watching it actually think that - as proven by the BBC and MANY other studies into this (notice how guys say women are more prone to rape fantasties but are UNABLE to quote anything saying it) - demeaning and denegrative acts are permissible. Whereas any decent woman would kick the loser in the nuts.

  • Pretty ridiculous to assume it's ONLY harmful to women. Women voluntarily go into the porn industry and make tons of money, it is still harmful but the post acts like women are somehow completely blameless in THEIR OWN decisions to do porn as if they're forced, which isn't true. If anything, it's more harmful to MEN. Men are usually the target demographic and get a false sense of reality from porn. Not to mention chemical imbalance as well a myriad of other things. I don't buy the BBC "study" as it is an awful source. Many women love the 'rough' stuff during sex, so that "study" doesn't seem to go deep enough.

  • porn sets an unrealistic reality to men... anal sex rimming 3 somes facefucking... now there's good sex like i'll always give my boyfriend a nice sensous blowjob... sometimes i do facefucking but not usaully... i hate guys wanting anal and some think they can do that without making you sore... believe me you'll get sore from anal sex

  • Porn doesn't fully fck up the mindset. It might enable it though. But rapists were often intending to hurt someone long before they got into porn

  • All it does is give women a false sense on how she has to perform in bed. That she has to have big boobs, suck dick, and take it in the ass.

    • I agree with everything you said here except for the first word.

    • @Jamie05rhs What word would you replace it with?

    • @DubiousIntentions "Part of what" (Or something like that.)

  • I'm going to say false. Porn isn't what puts women at risk, the big danger comes from the promotion of misogynistic ideology. That's what leads to rape and abuse.

    • I quite agree 💯

    • But unethical porn can contribute to it, so they aren't wrong either.

    • Perfectly said!

  • Eeeeeh... it can go both ways. Seeing as there's porn of men aaand... huh. Now that I think about it, it can be bad for women and men... and teenagers. :c Porn that is degrading of anyone can be very bad and awful in the wrong hands.

  • It is mostly male oriented with the intent of giving a guy something to watch while jerking off.

  • even everything else aside, for no reason other than how terribly common human trafficking is in the industry it should make you question it

  • Porn is harmful to everyone

  • I´d say true because porn changes a guy´s perspective on women and I think it´s naive to say that porn just happens in a guy´s head. Porn is a semi legal business that is hard to control and I doubt that anyone actually does.

  • I think it is, look at all the women on here that complain their guy is hooked on porn and doesn't bother with them anymore. It's like a sickness.

Porn also labels all women as sexual objects. Some women are okay with this, but the majority likely want to be treated with a little more respect and dignity.

  • porn will be harmful to vulnerable people... regardless of gender or orientation

and then, a lot of things in this life will be harmful to vulnerable and susceptible people... not just porn

  • It's bad for both men and women.

Then it's just as harmful to men

  • For everyone it is !

  • I think it is harmful to everyone who abuses it.

  • Porn is destructive to both women and men.
