It's because they are horny, and because they think if they wait, they will lose their shot at the person they really want to end up with.

So competition is why. And impatience, and fear of loss too.

Lets say you're a teen in highschool, and you want to wait, but that other guy just hit on the girl you're secretly in love with, so you're thinking to yourself, "I'm not ready to ask her out yet", but if you don't make your move now, that other guy will either become her boyfriend, or knock her up and leave, and you'd be heartbroken over it, so you hit on her.

And she happily accepts, turns out she likes you too, but then she takes it too fast, but your afraid that if you tell her to slow down, she will see you attempting to avoid sexual acts as you calling her ugly, and then you get stuck weighing in your head whats worse, losing your future wife, or rushing too fast, so you pick the latter.

Now I've never personally had that scenario, as I didn't find anyone at highschool or college attractive, and std and pregnancy risks are terrifying enough to me to not touch anyone I've not seen the medical history of, but I've heard variations of this story when asking friends why they are no longer virgins at such a young age, despite all the risks involved.

Society’s pressure. Sex is advertised on the cover of every teen magazine, fashion magazine, music video, and many other paces. It has become the norm.


I applaud girls that want to have a healthy sex life. Every time anyone has set, it’s experience for the next time. Enjoy it! But keep it in a trusting monogamous committed relationship. Stay away from friends with benefits or hook ups. See is meant to be with someone you care about. My 2¢ worth.

I think it's mostly due to peer pressure and not having parents who advise them. Hormones play a role yes, but I don't think that's the main reason.

Up until the modern era it was socially acceptable. Physically this age range is when our bodies are telling us to have children and it's when we are most fertile. So from a hormones standpoint, it makes sense that with all the intense feelings and sensations that teens would want to do it.
