1 is vanilla and contributes to the 60% divorce rate, and 2 is nearly impossible to arrange. Swingers will tell you that trying to find a situation where four people all like each other is nearly impossible.

I talked to a smoking hot couple from California, and they said it was extremely frustrating trying to find another couple. I'm talking like Barbie and Ken. It wasn't like they were super picky, it was more like everyone else was.

Depends:
(1) would be best suited in a stable civilisation
(2) would be best suited where the aim is to maximize pleasure
(3) would be suited in an era where there are less women than men and thus, the woman needs to be shared (either for ensuring that sexual frustration is minimal or any other reason)
(4) would be suited in an era where the population is declining and there are more men than women. This will ensure optimum child birth.

Just two people is definitely best (1). It would be an incredible turn off if another guy was there (2 or 3). In my experience, I have been with two women, twice (4). That was incredibly fun for me. TBH, I can't imagine it was so good for them. There's only so much a guy can do. Properly tending to two woman is impossible.
