Why do many people think Marilyn Monroe was plus size?

As far as I can recall from what I read in the past she was about 167 cm tall (5'6") and between 50-60kg. Her body measurements were something like 37-23-37(94-58-94), which would fit without problems in a size US 4/ EU 36 today. Sizing was different in the past, she wouldn't be size 16 now.

She had moments in her life when she got bigger like anyone else, but she didn't get famous for her bigger look. She also had some miscarriages, so she was pregnant at some point. I don't get why people use this false information about her to encourage being plus size.

The white swimsuit photo shoot was taken around the period when she was pregnant if I read correctly.

  • Heard/read stories about her being used, manipulated and abused because if how famous she were, her life were not easy for quite some time!

  • I don't think she was pregnant in the white swimsuit photos...

  • The term "plus-size" is fucking dumb and people need to stop using it. Calling "fat" or chubby by a different name does not change what it is. Fat is fat. Marilyn Monroe, however, was not fat.

  • She was sexy af, but no I wouldn't concider her plus sized, curvy maybe but not plus sized

  • No I don't think Marilyn Monroe was plus size, she was the slightly above the norms for the time but no way near plus size she was 5 ft. 5.5 inches tall; 35 inch bust; 22 inch waist (approximately 2-3 inches less than the average American woman in the 1950s and 35 inch hips, with a bra size of 36D.

    • You can't be a 36d and have 35 inch bust. She was a 34c which makes sense with a 37 inch bust

  • She was bigger near the end of her life. I think if she had lived into her 40s and 50s, she probably would've gotten huge.

  • Her hips are a bit wide for my taste, but that’s it. The rest looks just fine.

    • her hips aren’t even wide lmao she don’t even really have hips. especially compared to hella females these days who get plastic surgery to have wider hips & a big booty/be thick. you’re way too ugly to even have an opinion or preference nerd looking ass 😭🤣

    • @thotianaaa Jeez. No need to insult me. What’s your problem?

  • Clothes sizes changed she was a 12 which is like a 2 now.

    • NO it's not. She was 5''5", 130lbs. That's a size 4 in the US. Where in the hell do you get size 12?

    • @ronaldo75 In the 1950's that would be a size 12.

    • Women's sizes only just changed in 1995. No one in their right mind would think Marilyn Monroe was today's size 12. She was petite, end of story. Today's fat women only say she was plus size because they want to pretend to be in the same league as her.

  • Depends little in what age your after.
The pictures you show where she was thinnest was from when she was youngest.

The ones there she has extra baggage is from when she was older. on the edge of becoming BBW. plus size. or what ever you want to call it.
You can clearly see she is using underwear that hides belly fat, that actually was very popular back then. her legs has swallowed up amongst other parts.

  • Because they are judging based on the dress size of the 1940's and 1950's. Whereas today's ladies clothing size scale starts as zero or two, depending on the brand, in the 1940s, and 50s, most clothes intended for adult women started their sizing off at eight, ten or twelve, not zero (or, as has even emerged in recent years, “subzero” or “00” sizing).

  • Tbh, her body looks healthy. Not too thin, not too fat. She was a rare beauty.

  • She looked great, good hour glass figure.

  • I've never heard anyone say she was plus sized.

  • Great detective work. That's how misinformation or crappy information gets spread without people doing any research anymore. The downside to the internet age.

  • wouldn't know seems fine to me

  • From what I gather plus size is anything from 5kg overweight to 100 and more. So maybe?

    • She was never overerweight, not even in her last photos

    • 100% sure a BMI calculator would not agree with your statement.

    • Someone being about 60ish kg at 167cm is not overweight. 100% sure a bmi calcukator wouldn't not agree with you. And she was pregnant then.

  • Probably because people's notion what is attractive has been a bit distorted by media, particularly since the 80s

  • Well 167 pounds unfortunately is considered plus size

    • She wasn't that big in m9st of hrr carerr

    • I actually said 167 cm tall, not 167 lbs weight

    • 60 kg is 130lbs
