Why is the law in some countries say that people can have sex at 16, but its legal to watch adult content at 18+?

I've always wondered this but kept forgetting to ask this question.
I mean if you are allowed to have sex legally at 16, shouldn't they allow adult material to be viewed at the same age? Or should the law for all sexual activity should be the same at 18?

I mean there's more risks involved if you are able to the act in person, right?

Mind you, a good portion of teens probably had watched adult content from that age and younger; some would of had actual sex regardless of what's legally stated. With that in mind, should this law be changed?
I do understand this varies from country to country but for the basis of this question, I'm using the U. K as an example.

  • Laws are subject to change.

  • They should allow i have seen a porn where girl was 14 year old having sex

  • Laws around kids and sex are not based around logic. It's based on meeting voter occasional demands to "protect their children".

I'm not sure if it's been changed but when first passed a few years ago Canada's laws around child pornography were so strict that of a teen who had sex, legally, wrote down in their own diary what they'd done, they'd have committed a crime... by writing it down.

  • There's some pretty heavy stuff out there that would make you want to go wash your eyes out... I guess it would be fine to enable 16 year olds to watch certain categories but keep them from the weird stuff. Maybe it's just because adult content isn't my thing at all though

  • I actually lost my virginity at 16 and have seen porn since 13ish. From 15 me and boyfriend went down on each other.

    • See this what I'm talking about. Most would of seen that stuff way before 16- so why make it 18+ as a restriction?
