Why isn't homosexuality considered a mental illness?

Men and women are biologically structured to reproduce so why would sexual deviance be considered normal. Paedophilia is considered a mental disorder and so is being transgender/transexual (they are called Gender identity disorder as well as Body dysmorphic disorder). Homosexuality was only repealed as a mental illness due to mass demonstrations and a vote by the American Psychiatric Association in 1974. Now gay propoganda is everywhere, in schools, films and even public demonstrations making it appear as if it is normal. Those who oppose this view are labelled as "homophobes" or "bigots". Why has society so quickly accepted a group that is sexually deviant?

As you can see here, genetic mistakes are responsible for that specific disorder in some animals:

Therefore, when scientists finally manage to find such defective gene in humans, they will be able to create the necessary genetic or maybe hormonal therapy, in order to cure that genetic disorder.
