Why are there a lot of feminine men these days? what is the deal with these guys acting like girls?

Now,by feminine men,I don't mean guys who shave their chest or guys who are concerned more about their grooming.(so metrosexual is not being feminine nor is having a girlie face or a weak body feminine).I am talking about those guys who talk in a girlish manner, they walk like females and the general way they present themselves is quite feminine, you know their hand movements and stuff...(but they are not gay for sure). So I am curious what's up with these guys...?Lot of them are straight(not gay or bisexual)but I see more & more of these kinda guys cropping up everywhere.

  • People are different.

The idea of what makes a male manly was very rigid for a long time - just as 'for instance' ever watched 'That 70's Show'? American men were supposed to ALL be 100% like Red Foreman aka Dirty Harry or else they were accused of being gay-commie-bast*rds.

I still see the occasional anonymous online comment like that but mostly, men have been allowed to become a lot more individually self-identifying over the past 20 years.

Also, I am going to take a wild stab and guess you are American, possibly Mediterranean?

I have lived my life as a dual citizen (:

The definition of 'effeminate' is a lot more rigid in American culture and especially in African-American and Hispanic-American culture but not in the actual cultures of Africa or say 'Spain'. Those places,I can walk by a man who is dressed up more than myself, and he is mincing around but he will grab my a** and make some comment :D

I think Americans are just catching up with the rest of the world on what it means to be human as opposed to just a caricature.

However, I HAVE noticed that young American boys and to a lesser degree Brit boys are trying too hard to wear personas and they are being very campy because of it so, I somewhat agree with you that they are visually more prevalent but I think that the tendencies behind the behavior have been there for generations and it is just becoming more accepted in society...or resurfacing. The 60's kids were seen as too effeminate, the 1920's jazz kid boys were seen as too effeminate. Over and over so, if it is recurrent, I ask 'compared to what?'

I think it's just a kind of guy and girl.

    Girly girls really annoy me.

It's really just a matter of perception, I guess.

As long as they vote, pay taxes and build a productive Life that benefits society, it does not matter what their individual proclivities are. Welcome to Europe, maybe America's world dominance is waning and everyone's turning into 'Eurotrash' now :D

    • hmmm.u make a good point.it is just like more and more homosexuals surfacing up with time. So what are you(or most) women more attracted to ? effeminite or manly men?

  • there could be a couple of different reasons. maybe because they want to fit in with the female gender because guys have shunned them for their personality or maybe they have a high estrogen levels, maybe they want to act pretty, possibly because it draws attention to them. any of these could be reasons why. the one I think is the attention one. kinda like with lady gaga. would they get the same attention if they were to act "normal". normal is defined by a society by the people who live within it and think its of the majority of the public or something to be aimed for.

    its just my opinion

  • Well to be Honest there isn't allot of REAL MEN left I don't see any anyways.. farmer tans are now nude sun tans. sun bleached hair is bleached hair, guys grow their hair longish then put gel in it to hold the curls. they don't half of them don't know how to work on their own cars or trim their own grass. They don't stick around to raise their children instead its single mothers raising a family of 5. I'm saying its feminine guys are just bound to happen the way the world works now days.

  • I kind of used to do that myself. Around when I was fifteen I dressed in pink, talked in a girlish voice and did the whole hand thing. I think it was a lot because of my upbringing. My dad was never home much, never really had much to do with me, my only friend was my sister and both her and my mum have extremely strong/forceful personalities. Plus I was fairly lazy, so I really never did a much to get the ole testosterone flowing. I think that may be a large part of it for the majority of guys like this. It used to be that guys would do the stereotypically masculine things in society, and therefore took on the persona of being more "macho" than woman. In today's society with woman's rights and all that (not even going to get into it...) woman are doing a lot more of the masculine type of things and it's more accepted than it used to be for men to more effeminate. Not that I entirely agree with it, but it does seem to be the way things are going...

It also may be that because of the amount of single mothers today guys get far more of a feminine upbringing than they used to when parent split ups were somewhat less common and they actually had a male figure in their lives.

  • I think as homosexuality and metrosexuality and all that stuff becomes more of the "norm" we can expect to see more of this behavior from guys in the future. There are in fact a good number of guys who actually wish they'd been born women, so if they can act feminine amongst an increasingly open-minded society, they will.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • It's because in our day and age, people are becoming more accepted. I have a few friends like this myself and some of them are dating other girls. It's just it's the style they like whether it be people who they hang around with or what they like in the media. And looking or being built a certain way is all dependent on genetics or not willing to build up muscle and such.

    • I agree with you :)

    • Yay, thank you!

  • Well maybe that is just how they are. I have no idea but I mean there are girls who are more masculine, but are still straight, so maybe it's something like that. Perhaps they grew up around a lot of women, maybe they were close to their sisters or maybe even had no male influences in their lives? Who know's, but that could be a reason. People pick up mannerisms from those who they are around most, so that could be why they are like that.

  • i honestly have no idea...ive never seen this kind of guy and if I did...i'd assume he was gay...sorry I couldn't help more :/

  • frankly I've never seen a guy like this who wasn't gay or bi. I agree with the first comment, maybe they lack a male role model? maybe they hang with too many female and they pick up what they do?

  • maybe they never really hung around with guys as much as girls when they were younger (single mothers are becoming more common) so they pick up on the way their mums act and carry on like that. I don't really know though
