Circumcision is child abuse. Do you agree?

Now, I know a bunch of people will tell me all about STD transmission rates in Africa and stuff, that doesn't really matter. The question is, what exactly is circumcision?

This.

After watching the video which needs quite the stomach to watch as it is the recording of a legitimate circumcision procedure on a living male child (and thus probably not safe for work), do you agree that circumcision is child abuse?

Note: Do NOT vote if you haven't watched the video and you would have said "No, it's not child abuse". Watch the video first, and THEN press the vote button.
Yes, I agree. I did not watch the video, but I already knew that circumcision was child abuse.
Vote A
Yes, I agree. I watched the video and now I've realized that circumcision is wrong and child abuse.
Vote B
No, I watched the video and I still think circumcision is perfectly okay, and totally not child abuse. For reasons.

  • Basically circumcision started from a prudish society that thought it would make the genitalia less sensitive thus preventing masturbation and premarital sex. It still goes on in the US and Africa as well for both males and females. In today's secular society, they try to legitimize the practice by saying it's "healthier" and "hygienic." Most of our ignorant denizens take that statement and believe it without question. The purpose of foreskin is to protect the penis from any foreign objects or bacteria and provide lubrication during sexual intercourse. A circumcised penis doesn't hold nearly as much moisture so if the girl is lacking vaginal lubrication to any degree, she will become dry very fast. It has also been proven that it provides sort of a natural "ribbed" feeling and gives more pleasure for both during sex.

If it was done for "hygienic" purposes then why don't girls have their vulva/labia removed? A vagina is a gaping, smelly, wet hole that leaks out urine, blood, and fluids constantly yet for some odd reason the practice of circumcising a male is socially acceptable as "hygienic."A vagina would technically be a cesspool of infection but it isn't. A penis is significantly easier to clean considering it is outside of the body. Long story short, genitalia should remain intact and circumcision should be something that you can do by choice later in life. If your penis gets infected or dirty just from a little extra layer of skin then maybe you need to shower more often. I am 23 years old and uncircumcised and mine has never been dirty or smelly or anything.

  • Voting A. I did not watch the video as I don't have the stomach for it but have seen many many many many campaigns fighting against it with legitimate reasons. The fact that it is forced makes it abuse imo. As you can see, others can choose to get it later on and many feel there are reasons not to have it done. The fact that the child cannot choose is why I say abuse as I feel there's still reasons to debate as to whether or not it should be done.

  • I don't get why it's legal really. I think there were a few court rulings in Europe where a baby died and the rabbi went to prison for it or something. Not quite sure though.
If it wasn't for religion I think no one would argue it's a particularly good idea to cut off some babies skin. In some ancient cultures it used to be practiced to humiliate defeated enemies.

Circumcision does have a long history and just outlawing it won't solve the problem. If you think it's child abuse, which I do, then it begs the question what does that mean we should do next? Thinking it's child abuse doesn't get you anywhere.
And circumcision in the best case scenario is unnecessary plastic surgery, in the worst case scenario a barbaric and life threatening tradition. It's in everyone's interest to have so many of them as possible to work under the best circumstances

    • They've tried to ban it multiple times but then both the muslims and the jews started a riot and claimed that their cultural heritage is at stake and this is kinda like the second holocaust and what Hitler would have wanted. And I'm like... what?

    • And that's the problem, just like abortion, outlawing it won't make it disappear, it will just move underground where it's more dangerous. It's very hard to argue with religion. So I don't know what the best solution would be? Education maybe show children sex ed class videos like that? Educate them about the benefits and threats? In europe, outside of religion it's rarely practiced and numbers are going back in the US too, so maybe that's the best you can ask for?

    • Keeping something legal merely because it would still be done illegally doesn't really justify not prohibiting it. If that was the case and people weren't fined or jailed for acts they commit against the law, then we shouldn't have a law system in general. I think if they showed the video I posted above in class at the age of 16 or so, people would have some second thoughts about forcing their kid to be mutilated for life. I don't think they understand the concept "for life" in this case.

  • I think it is child abuse absolutely! It is taking something away forever from a completely normal, healthy BABY/child, against which it cannot defend itself. And for reasons like culture, religion and other manmade thoughts.
I think you should be old enough to be able to chose yourself, if you want to be circumcised, perhaps at 14, and that is still even before many people get involved in sexual activity.
We had this discussion in Europe, they wanted to install a law against it, but strong religious powers overruled it. On the other hand, they consider ear-piercing on children now child abuse (which I also consider abuse to a certain point). That is double-moral at its finest and going completely against the LAW of physical integrity.

  • Some rabii infected two little boys with hepatitis while performing circumcisions just the other day... It's genital mutilation unless done for medical reasons. As both yourself and myself have pointed out previously: we don't live in deserts anymore so the cleanliness issue thing is just bullshit. My guy isn't circumcised and neither were my brothers. None of whom have ever had any infections and I can say with out a shadow of a doubt that my boyfriend's penis is very clean.

    • You're alright with medical reasons but feel it's abuse if done for religious ritual?

    • Medical reasons such as Phimosis do indeed warrant circumcision if there is no other alternative solution.

    • To children, yes, absolutely. Adults are free to do what they want with their own bodies but forcing your beliefs onto your children when it takes the form of removing parts of the body is plain wrong.

  • I agree. It is child abuse. You're cutting off a part of that child's body, and most of the time, it's not even a necessary procedure. That's like cutting off a piece of a child's ear just because "it might lower the risk of ear infection" or some other stupid shit. You're still cutting off a piece of them, without their consent. It's abusive.

  • I did not watch it but I've seen circumcision first hand and it's NOT child abuse. Not saying what is in the video isn't but it's probably something that is not the normal scenario.

    • They're just slicing and dicing the foreskin like they normally do during circumcision. It is very disturbing.

    • Well I saw my little brother get circumsized. He did not cry at all and there was barely any bleeding at all. It was a very quick procedure and was no big deal. I do understand things can go wrong but overall I see nothing wrong with it

  • It is abuse, as a child though he is the one and only who has the right to choose changes in his own life has not the power to control his life at that point of time and parents have the duty to only keep the child safe and carry him the way he was created to the point he finds the power to control his own life. it is not only in humans but in every animal, and is a natural duty. and everyone of the parents who choose to make changes in his or her child mentally or physically is abusing his or her place as the guardian and protector of that child and violating the child's rights as a human being.

A child is a human being. he has the same rights as an adult. and his rights should be kept unviolated until he can take control of his body and mind and so life to keep them himself.

  • Nice and easy. Just over 5 minutes in and out. I have zero recollection of my circumcision, so no harm, no foul, I say. A little bit of pain I don't remember and I'm left with a lifetime of aesthetically pleasing D. Win.

    • I think it looks disturbing, tbh. But of course, I don't need to be touching anyone's but mine.

    • It has also been proven that it alters pain perception and makes one more vulnerable to pain.

    • That's fair, bro. To me its either or, I'm indifferent. I have a real high pain tolerance, I played football my whole life, haha, so I don't know about the vulnerability. All good to me, do it, don't do it... as long as you're alive in the end, that's all that matters to me.

  • Thanks religion!

    • and tradition and culture and ignorance, you're welcome! :D Most people don't even realize that it was so promoted in the West to prevent masturbation, and not because it's cleaner. Hell, they even claimed it would be a cure for epilepsy, like what?

  • Watched the video. Was sort of unnecessary, Didn't show me anything I didn't already know about the procedure.

Having lived through infant circumcision, I can honestly tell you that I don't feel the slightest bit abused for it. I don't regret that it was done, and I don't miss my foreskin at all.

    • (of course you don't, you never had the chance to have it for enough time to remember it)

    • That being said, I might be less ambivalent about it if I were uncut, and didn't have experience to go by.

  • I don't care really. It doesn't effect my life and doesn't bother me in the slightest. If cutting a piece of skin from a penis is child abuse, then a kid who gets her ears pierced is being abused, because having a hole punched in your ear is painful.

    • Good comparison. +1

    • You're not the first one to make that statement: www.chicagonow.com/.../

    • I do agree piercing babies is child abuse. I don't get why people do that? For a stupid beauty standard There should be a minimum age for that like I don't know 10 or 12 at which point children can reasonably decide what they want

  • I'm glad my parents had mine snipped!

    • Well that's what conditioning does.

  • Vote D, NO and I don't need to watch any video. God said to do circumcision, then end of discussion.

    • Worthless input.

    • Very logical reasoning lol

  • I had the choice to be circumcised when I was six. I agreed to it. I'm glad I didn't get it at birth, because I think the delayed procedure gave me a beautiful aesthetically pleasing cut.

No, it's not child abuse, although I think it's more fair that I got to choose.

    • Why would you choose to be circumcised if you don't have phimosis?

    • Because it looks better to me. But that's just my opinion. Why is circumcision such a big concern to you? If you don't like it, don't do it. Don't have your children do it. But suggesting that it's abuse or that we should only have a medical reason to be cut is ridiculous.

    • Because it is done to children without their consent, and there is nothing they can do to undo the process afterwards. Parents are choosing to hide their heads in the ground (look at that anonymous under-18 female answerer who claims "I don't need to watch the video because reasons"), they're actively avoiding to be informed on what it is they are actually doing not to feel guilty about it until their son themselves chooses to do so in case they disagree with their decision.

  • It's the American culture to get your child circumcised. Bible says it, & we're about the last most religious nation out of the English-speaking world save Ireland. And I don't even think they do it anymore. I know the UK is really sensitive on that topic & will defend their foreskin, and I respect that's the culture over there. I understand how our culture of circumcision can come off as barbaric though.

    • I don't understand how anyone who watches that video would allow doctors to do that to their children.

  • I am circumcised. I have no issues with it. I have been told girls favor it for giving oral.

    • That sounds like they just suck at sucking. Heh.

  • No. I love my circumcised penis. If I was uncircumcised I would probably hold a grudge against my parents.

    • Most people do that for being circumcised. It's not like you can't be circumcised when you're an adult. At least you get proper Anesthetics and everything.

    • Eh, I'm glad they did it when I was a kid so I don't remember it. That would be rather traumatic to go through as an adult as it takes a while to heal.

    • I still think it's problematic that they make a choice that you don't necessarily agree with, and if you disagree then your only other two choices are silent grudgeful acceptance or suicide. Considering you can't just "undo" it.

  • Its not "child abuse" its what the parents want, also the baby doesn't remember any of it anyways, just because ypu get queasy from a surgery doesn't make it "child abuse". This vid is just to scare people and you are being extremely bias

    • Right, right, if the parents want to beat the child with a baseball bat it's not "child abuse" either because it's what the parents want to do as a pastime to lower their stress levels. This video is the video of a circumcision procedure, it's not to scare people, it's to inform. Well technically I found it very disturbing and scary, but it's designed to inform.

    • Well, that is really funny !! If he does not remember about , do anything..

    • No, they dont take a wet paper towel and spread blood all around his body to inform the viewer. Also he doesn't feel shit thats why they stabbed a needle (a huge way too big needle) in his baby pernis, babies just cry. Also when he says "oh I know buddy this is the worst part" when he was about to actually start cutting just proved it was bullshit, and I see why you would frown on this because yeah it probably looks gross (a dick getting cut on) but it really isn't that bad

  • I was circumcised as a lad, and I really don't get why people make it out to be such a big deal. It wasn't a holiday to the coast of Spain or anything, but I didn't "survive being mutilated" like everyone else seems to say.

    • Because it's unnecessary, and it is executed on people without their consent.

    • Happened to me, I'm not running around with PTSD and a placard.

    • Some people do.

      https://www.intactamerica.org/circumcisionharm
"Psychological effects: Many respondents reported deep sorrow, a sense of loss and inferiority, feelings of abandonment, inadequacy, anger at being mutilated, and mistrust of doctors. 78% feel “less whole,” 68% feel “inferior” to men who are intact, and 68% feel “not normal” or “unnatural.” 13% of respondents report having suicidal thoughts; 5% have attempted suicide. "

  • Yes, completely.

  • Dont think its child abuse

if I have a son then ill get him circumcised not a single fuck given

    • I got it done when I was 13

  • Circumcision is a gift from God when you love getting blowjobs... all my girlfriends haven't been able to keep my cock out of their mouths

    Thanks Mom & Dad!

    • That doesn't even make sense. Blowjobs would feel even better if your foreskin would be there to stimulate the penis and also to preserve its sensitivity.

    • You are obviously not circumcised And I'm talking about the ewwwwwwww factor

    • You just need to wash it regularly, lol.

  • Yes I do. I'm not circumcised and my penis works fine. I can piss and shot a load like a circumcised penis. I believe there's been studies showing just because your circumcised doesn't make you immune to diseases. Anyone can get an STD on their penis.

    • And you don't get inflammations and stuff and have phimosis if you practice regular hygiene, so most of their points are moot.

  • I don't agree. It's not child abuse. And sometimes, if you don't get circumcised then stuff can get stuck under the skin, like soap. And I know that can suck for guys. So the guys that aren't circumcised have to clean extra I think. It's only extra skin. I don't see how it is disturbing, it's a simple medical thing for when the child is born. And also if the people that get charged for performing this 'child abuse' were to be sent to jail for it, that's a lot of people. And why wait until the child is old enough to decide on his own to be circumcised? How old is that? Like 13 or 14? I'm sure a 13 year old boy wouldn't want a fucking knife near his dick at any time. I'm sure that would hurt...
    A

    • The clitorial hood is just "extra skin" too yet you're not arguing that it is unnecessary.

If stuff gets stuck under the foreskin, you're pretty much a dumbass. Like, how would soap get stuck, that's why you wash it off in the shower. The foreskin also has multiple functions (www.mothersagainstcirc.org/fleiss.html)

Circumcision is classified as plastic surgery. The only reason why it wasn't banned yet is because muslims and jews felt persecuted and claimed that "omg this is Hitler all over again" because they'd be prohibited from executing their "cultural practices" (I'm surprised they're not fighting to get stonings for "adultery" to be legal again... oh wait www.telegraph.co.uk/.../...r-new-Islamic-laws.html ).

Also, how is it any more okay to slice and dice an infant than it is to slice and dice a 13 years old who actually chose it for himself? Of course it would hurt, yet you say it's totally reasonable for an infant. Infants are human beings too, ya know. They also feel pain, the neural pathways are developed for it.

    • Seriously though, circumcision is not necessary for proper hygiene.
