Curvy, fat, voluptuous, etc.--What's the deal?

So I apologize if this question or topic is redundant because it's probably been asked before.

I find that women and men have very different perceptions of an attractive female body. I get the impression that when men say they like curvy women, they are thinking of someone like Jessica Alba. But many women when they hear this confuse curvy with fat. I notice that a lot of women with obvious weight problems label themselves as BBWs and they call themselves "curvy"; no offense to anyone, but this just seems like self-denial to me. I think everyone is beautiful in their own way but if you have a serious weight problem, you need to get your health together.

Here is a woman that I think looks great:

What do you think? Fat? Curvy? Just right? And please both girls and guys answer.

And no, this is not to justify myself in any way (I am actually much skinnier than that woman and wish I could look like that!); I'm doing a research project on this and would love to hear as many responses as possible. And if you don't mind, please include your age and your own body type as well.

With my research, I begin with the fact that preferences are not only influenced by the media. There are external factors we need to think about: a man's age, build, cultural background, etc. I try to draw direct links between these external factors and

his preference. In the end, attraction is about finding the person who likes you for you. One should never change for anyone else because there is someone for each and everyone of us. I try to teach this to teenage girls I mentor.

Thanks to everyone who responded so far; keep the responses coming and please be as honest as you can. They are quite interesting to read.

My project is over but I hoped to point out to self-conscious women that attraction is really in the eye of the beholder as the responses from the guys are half and half: some of you find her really hot, others say she is too big.

In conclusion, find a guy who will find YOU attractive. No one can attract 100% of the population. Some will find you attractive, some won't, just be happy with someone who thinks you're perfect even if you think you're not.

  • 5'8", 152pounds. Pear shaped.

I think she is curvy...and I think she's a little top heavy which makes her look kinda fat, but the thing is,she's a model, so one expects her to look thinner...but if I saw her walking down the street, I wouldn't even describe her as chubby! I'd just be like "Wow!"

  • I wouldn't call her curvy. She's "big". And you're right, when I (not sure about other guys though) think of curvy, I think of girls with natural curves who aren't overweight, so the curves come more from her bone structure and muscles than anything.

  • When I think of curvy, I think of hour glass figure, round butt, and breasts. All those have curves. Personally, I don't find the girl in the link attractive at all. I don't think she is "curvy," just (for lack of better term) fat.

    • Hahah you just described me! :P (the hourglass part lol)
