Okay, so there are a few notes worth making here. First, there has only been been one reputable study of penis size that didn't rely on self-reported measurements. Not coincidentally, that study, even with the largest sample size, had the smallest averages: 5.1" in length and 4.59" in girth--and that still fails to account fully for the statistical likelihood that subjects with larger penises were far more likely to volunteer and skew the average.
That suggests a few (fairly obvious) likelihoods:
-average is about 5" (L) x 4.5" (G)
-men, even larger men, lie like crazy.
-perhaps because of this, both men and women don't perceive size very accurately.
The fact is, the standard deviation for girth was about 0.4", which means to get to the 5.5" (probably about 5.3" internal) of the toilet paper roll, you are just over 2 deviations above the mean, and thus, exceptionally rare. By 6", you're more than 3 deviations over the mean--not just rare, but astronomically rare.
Fun fact: that's about as rare as penises over 8" in length. So, why does that sound a little hard to believe? Men lie. Why do men lie? The media lies.
The average porn star is advertised with a penis between 8" and 9" in length, but when measurements have been taken formally, even through self-reporting, the average length among porn stars was closer to 6.5" or 7" in length. Porn also tends to deliberately cast men with small frames and very low body fat to exaggerate proportion.
Ron Jeremy was famous for years for his 10"+ "coke can" penis, but there have literally been molds of his penis made for toys, and yes, it is massive--a massive ~8.5" long by ~5.7" thick at the absolute largest. Yet, even here we find exaggerations.
There are also comical trends on adult dating/fetish sites of size pictures with comparisons being at convenient angles, and anything with an actual ruler/tape being the most blurry or poorly framed photos. Yet, even with comparisons, we get a fun example of a woman from Naked Attraction who insists she likes penises that are 9", or like "the length of her IPhone..." The largest IPhone is an impressive 5.65" long--maybe getting up to 6" long in a big case.
I could go on forever with about a thousand examples, even personal experiences, but the point is:
A toilet paper roll would be quite thick--especially if that was the average girth along the length rather than at the largest point, which is where you would measure. Throw in the fact that the average woman's wrist is between 5.5" and 6.5" around, and it should make a lot more sense.
Just think, for the most part, what you're told or what you picture, you can probably do this conversion.
What you think is (or, likely, say is):
10"+ is probably actually 8"-8.5"
9" is about 7.5"
8" is about 6.5"
7" is about 6"-6.25"
6" is about 5"-5.5"
5" is about 4.5"
And for girth, most of what you've probably seen, felt, or what you have, is between 4.25" and 5.25"--since that would statistically encompass about 85% of men.
Perpetuating an idea that something like 5.5" sets the standard for girth does nothing for positive or healthy sexual culture, and it doesn't even matter. And if you really want some proof that 5.5" is pretty far above the threshold of thickness, read some reviews of larger sex toys that are described as "thick" or "filling" by reviewers, then see what the girth measurement is--then take into account that they don't actually measure the circumference, they multiply the diameter of the absolute widest point by 3.14, and because most penises are more ellipses than perfect circles, and are never the same girth all the way down, you can usually knock a chunk off any measurements.
And a final fun fact concerning sex toys and size: most portable vibrator wants (portable, but not mini) have a massage head that's between 5.25" and 5.5" in girth--and from my own experience with women, I'll wager that most will not find inserting the head of a vibrator wand especially comfortable without some practice/patience--if ever.

Why do so many men think penis size is the end all be all? Would a **** that passes some toilet paper test satisfy me? I couldn't answer that question because you're not giving me enough information.
