Why are teens so insecure about their bodies?

Accept the fact that you're not kids anymore and you are gonna grow into an adult. It's part of life.
Girls: Don't spend hours in the bathroom just to do your dumb looking make up. You don't have to look in every mirror you walk by. Don't over exaggerate every little thing in life
I still don't understand why y'all complain about acne and fat and body hair and stuff like that.
Boys: Don't get all wishy washy when your voice cracks. It happens.
Girls: Don't sit and cry bc Jimmy doesn't like you. He's not the only guy in the world. GET OVER IT! You'll find someone else. Y'all don't have to get upset about every little thing.
I'm just curious about why teens act the way that they do

Everyone blames society, peers, the media, etc. Just ignore all of that. Don't try to fit in or anything like that. Its dumb and a waste of time

  • I think plenty of older people are like this. I know I can be... I don't wear makeup, but it's hard not to compare yourself to others who look perfect, and I mean IRL not on TV.

    • Lots of people tell me how they compare themselves to me. I tell them not to and to be themselves no matter whos around or what the situation is. sure everyone says my body is perfect just bc a pimple has never touched my face, i have a slim waist and a big butt (and boobs) but so? what do I have to do with YOU. BE YOURSELF!!!

    • Yes people should have higher opinions of themselves. You definitely seem like you do, especially with that username!!

    • And comments. I can't tell if you're srs or not but I like your example a little. It's not like a self disparaging or depressing post. It's refreshing almost.

  • This is what this sounds like:

"Hey, you have a problem? Well here's a solution to you - don't have it. Simple."

  • Uh? What?

In adolesence, since everything is growing everything will appear like it shouldn't be there. Arms are long, legs are long, torso isn't. Everyone is horny and obsessed with everyone else. It's not exactly our fault.

Teens aren't mature. They aren't supposed to be okay with these things, they're supposed to learn to behave like an adult by being this way. That's the only fun thing about being a teenager, you can just experiment and see how to behave etc.

  • Two words... The Media!

    • What a great excuse!!! :) (sarcastically)

  • Clickbait.
    This is obvious. smh
    Troll.
    ('-' )
    T_T

    • How am I a troll? Please explain. You're probably saying that bc you're 13 and do all those things

    • Yeah, I am insecure. But most people were. In the teenage years, it is time for us to find ourselves and our identities. We feel the need to conform, even though we don't have to. I blame the media.

    • That's everyones excuse. The media. It's always the medias fault. I've never been insecure so I don't know. I don't care about the media. Most girls hated me in high school bc of my body

  • A combination of hormones, personal thought process, peers, society and the media, in my opinion is what makes teenagers insecure.

    • I say forget my peers, media and society. i am me and thats who im gonna be.

    • Well good for you. Not every teenager thinks like that and not everyone is consciously aware of how they're influenced by others.

  • Because nobody teaches them that these things are unimportant.

    • That is true

  • I believe it's just a normal part of being a teen and also the media/society's influence.

    • I couldn't care less what society thinks about me. Just be yourself always. Don't be what society wants you to be

  • It's just an awkward phase. Hormons, weird body transformations... it is all very awkward.

    • Body transformations are normal. Girls get mad when they start getting body fat

  • because media and society's expectation

    • I don't care about anyones expectations. I look how I want to look.

    • you're ranting about it above... me am just saying the possible reasons why young teens are obsessed oh and by the way you ain't a teen anymore you're an adult... you're 18 brah

  • I think it's the magazines and other nonsense out their that influences them and makes them overly insecure about themselves.

  • Why is this so relatable to me & I'm not even a teen lmao

  • because people in schools boys and girls the same body shame and it makes people insecure about their bodies

  • Because teens (particularly girls) are hyper-judgmental about details and want to be "perfect".

    • I just don't care about how I look

    • But most do, hence the obsession with hair, makeup, clothes, pubic grooming and even modifications like boob jobs and labiaplasty.

    • The sad fact is men don't really care about these anywhere near as much.

  • The toxic environment they are in

    • Everyone blames the enviorment

    • One person against all the idiots? It woukd break them later or sonner.

    • Well if you know theyre idiots, dont sit and listen to the bs that they have to say.

  • The pressure of body image based on the press and in entertainment, is not to be overlooked.

With boys as well as girls!

  • I have always thought of your teens mainly the early part 13 to 16/17 as been caught between two worlds - You are no longer a child and not quite an adult - You probably feel a bit adrift and that is when self doubt can strike its hardest especially in this current era - Maybe I am looking back through rose coloured glasses but teenagers seem to be exposed to way more than when I was a teen, I am all for opening up young peoples' minds but too the right stuff - I feel it is way too much too soon, mid teens talking about dick pics and sending nudes for example - This attitude has permeated into everyday life and heightens the uncertainty any teen has these days - I know there is a saying "Let kids be kids" but you feel like saying sometimes "Let teens be teens", there is plenty of time for them to grow up later.

  • They know that they are not perfect. But they need to get perfect. Nobody is really perfect. They don't realize that.

  • Because they're teens.

  • Part of it has deal with hormones, also models (biggest part) , and embarrassment. Teens are just trying to find out whom they are , and is a very confusing time for them. I completely agree with what you say and also why have terms and parents are being so lazy and rude? That question I would like to know a better answer than they are extremely selfish and are teaching there kids this. Sorry want on a bit of a rant.

    • It's hard especially like social media is so dame popular right now and they think of models appearance is what they need to achieve which is pure ignorance.
