Why Do People Act As If Herpes Is Worst Than HIV?

If you have been keeping up with the news, you may have heard that Usher (the singer) has genital herpes. I have been reading all sorts of comments in regards to this, and it makes me sad.

I have genital herpes also. I'm 26. Got it late last year. After getting the virus and breaking out severely, I cured myself of it. It cost me $5,000 dollars (not at once... but over the course of 6 months) to cure it. This is how I got rid of it:



Haven't broken out since, but I will need to get retested soon and ensure that is gone for good.

Anyway... reading comments people had to say about Usher and herpes, it made me sad how under educated people are about the virus. People act like if you got herpes, you are worthless and can't have sex again.

Herpes doesn't kill you. It just causes minor skin irritations, that's it. And... it can be cured, but not through medication and it is harder to get rid of unlike most STDs. I can say that. I'm going to write a Take about this... but why do people treat herpes as if it's worse than HIV?

Most people don't know they have herpes and don't get tested because in most cases, the symptoms are so mild they are not recognized for what it is. In many cases they have no symptoms at all, except for a little tiredness for a few days, and then it goes away. Medical textbooks often publish severe cases of herpes to help doctors know what to look for but these are not typical at all.

Chicken pox is much worse as it stays with you for life and can appear again as shingles, which is much more painful than almost all other herpes outbreaks.

The long-term effects of herpes is... constipation. Yep, the virus can settle in the muscles in the intestines that move the food along. The muscles will not work as well and the person might have chronic constipation. So you eat a little more fiber and that will probably work just fine.

Ozone therapy cannot cure herpes. The only people who say that it can are advocates of ozone therapy. Herpes is incurable. Once you have the virus you have it for life.

Ok. You can tell that to my friend. Spent a year getting ozone. Hasn't had an outbreak since. He got tested. Keeps testing negative for it. He has started having sex again, and he has had no issues. He gets tested every month, and it's not coming up anymore. Ozone alone doesn't cure it, that is true. You have to dedicated to treating it. Eating healthy, supplements, working out, etc.

When he goes for the rest of his life without an outbreak then I won't have to tell him, he'll know that he is cured and that I am wrong. The only real advocates for ozone therapy that I have seen are those with a vested interest in ozone therapy. I honestly wish anyone who suffers from herpes luck though, if there is something that can keep it away I'd not begrudge anyone having access to that.

There is a difference between "not having an outbreak" and being "cured". Herpes is currently incurable, and it will likely be incurable during your lifetime. The reason is that herpes is not just an infection like a cold/flu. Herpes is a retrovirus, meaning that when you are infected, the virus integrates its DNA into your cells. This means that when you are infected, your actual DNA contains the herpes virus coding. There is no technology that can enter the billions of cells in the human body and reverse/delete the exact DNA segment that was inserted by a virus. Drugs and various treatments can prevent the herpes DNA from being expressed. This can stop outbreaks, but you will ALWAYS be a carrier, and you will ALWAYS be infected, and you will ALWAYS have herpes. And if you stop the treatment during your lifetime, you will ALWAYS be at risk of another outbreak.

@meowcow meowcow is completley right, The trace of it they could make so minute that you could not pick it up in a test but you will always be a carrier, but it is this ignorence and stupidity in people which leads them to believe that they can be cured, only then to venture out and continue to spread the virus on to others.

@meowcow LMFAO. You are an idiot! I'm a biochemical scientist. I have seven Master Degrees in biotechnology from Harvard, Stanford & MIT. Herpes doesn't fuse with your DNA. It hides inside your nervous system & it's debatable as to why your white blood cells do not attack there. Once outside the nervous system, you're white blood cells wipes the floor with hsv1 and hsv2.

Short answer for the title: HIV will kill you. But Herpes will fuck with you for the REST of your life. That's a loooooooong time to be fucked with.

All viruses are incurable. This guy may have treatments to stop breakouts, but he's still a carrier and I can't imagine that these treatments would prevent him from being able to transmit it.

Definitely. You might be non detectable for HIV as well but still have it. This guy might be spreading shit and infecting people with this ignorance.

Technically you can't pass HIV to your partner if you're on meds. But herpes is a much more sinister adversary. There is no medication that prevent it's spread. In fact the CDC. is now saying that herpes has gone Airborne! Worse yet, your cat or dog can get it from other animals and pass it on to you. My teacher had a herpes outbreak while teaching class, you could literally see the bumps forming and opening on his face! Like little aliens were under his skin! (Very disturbing) and to state the obvious you can catch it from dirty toilet seats, so be sure to wipe down the seats and use covers.
