Well I have kind of a related story but it's awkward to answer because it goes on for a bit, anyways:
This take is somewhat true, on Reddit gone wild I posted a picture of my dick but it got no upvotes and one downvote.
I figured it could've been just straight guys there so I found different subs like guys gone wild or some sub names about guys and dicks. I thought maybe a demographic of real women would be looking in there, who would be the type for wanting to see dick pics and then hopefully I could get their attention.
I posted some pictures that showed my dick and body and face. Shortly afterwards, within the hour, I got a message from a female to add her on Kik. I also got maybe one or two messages or comments from gay or trans dudes.
I added the female on Kik and we started sending masturbatory acts back and forth, possibly over the span of a week. At some point later I think I found the picture they were using on a camgirl site, and somehow it was admitted by them to being a gay man.
He said he tried many times before but this was the only time it worked, he sent me a pic of his ass to see if I'd like it but I sort of had lost all motivation and stopped. I wanted to be able to continue sending him stuff because it didn't seem like too much trouble but I couldn't find it within me to do it, a few days later he deleted the Kik account and that was that.
Anyways, I still had the Reddit account and I ended up in a "femcel" subreddit, female incel. Since I'm kind of an incel in not finding women over my life, but not in the way of being very hateful and violent against women that many would relate the term to.
But it should've been great since I'm male incel, they're female incel, we meet each other and problem solved.
But it didn't get solved, I made a post and apparently they went through my profile and saw the nude pictures on there and then started to attack me, apparently they were convinced that I had set this entire thing up just to trick them into seeing my dong pictures. I never would have thought they would go through my profile but the damage was done. I also pointed out you can have nudes censored in your settings but they were unrelenting.
The thread got locked and that was all the for that attempt, deleted everything some time later, didn't seem like there was a viable option to finding a woman with that method. But yes I found gay men
I guess I forgot to add that the female masturbating acts from his side seemed to be clips he took from who knows where.
wouldn't say all guys who do it are crying out cos they are closet gay's but rather many i can pretty much guarantee that whoever sends unsolicited dick pics often are crying out for confirmation or to beg that everyone boosts their ego's cos they could be ashamed of it... and feel by throwing it out there they could find someone who might say "awww ain't he cute!"
or maybe it's their desire to be acknowledged cos they are serious bigger dicks and think what they throw out there to all the women matches their misdirected and over estimated idea of what is perceived as wanted

Lots of offers to "help with the baby oil" as far as I know those are the only publicly posted pictures of my dick. I can only recall two female photographers out of all that, only one of which had any interest in seeing me naked, that with other women as well.

This is the most profound and thought-provoking question that I have ever seen asked. Holy shit, where to begin? My knee-jerk reaction is to say "yes". But then I rethink it and I come up with "no". And finally, after the war in my brain as finished raging leaving trillions brain cells dead, I am left only with a lame "possibly". Can I precede that with a "quite"?
In fact, I think it's a very 'straight' thing to do. Guys are generally delighted by naked pictures of girls, and thus assume that it's what girls want to see, as well. Gay guys, I suspect, assume other gay guys want to see the full body, not just the dick. Straight guys, however, don't understand why a girl would care about anything other than the dick.

I don't think so. I think they just have very unrealistic expectations about how their pictures will be received by women. It's the raincoat-wearing flasher for the digital age.
I would even day that if you send these pics to anyone else than your partner, and even than with case (delicate towards abuse...), there is a big problem!
I don't send dick pics, unless heavily requested, but sending them is definitely not gay. It's a misguided attempt to be desirable, but there's no way it's a subconscious cry for homosexuality. That's just insane.

well that's just the sad thing we live in. gay men care more for other men sexually, than women do. i don't think that's a problem men are to blame for though. women are at fault for not caring for men sexually.
Personally, I think trying to shame men into better behaviour by equating it with homosexuality is playing into a very sexist and bigoted narrative.
I agree that at best unsolicited dick pics are sleezy and cheep. And that is at best.
But I think most gay guys would take umbridge at suggesting such behaviour is somehow a feature of gayness.
As are men who promote the wearing of ladies' underwear, the use by males of make-up and other ladies' products, and the wearing of trousers that day so that their underwear and butt cheeks are visible to the public.
