Yeah, my mother died from breast cancer, and just recently (less than two months ago) my sister's boyfriend also died from cancer. Maybe you think I'm being a bit too serious about it, well... okay, whatever.
My dad died of cancer and so did my grandfather so, yeah.

i think it's mostly the seriousness of the issue that gives the name the "scare". whatever else you are gonna name it, will be associated with the same scare soon.
though i think we're generally too scared of cancer. pretty much everyone having cancer as they die skews the mortality statistics quite a bit.
