Do you personally know more LGBT men, or women?

Hey!!! I had originally wanted to make this poll bit more complex.. including each sub groups (such as.. do you know more Gay men or Lesbians, do you know more Bi men, or Bi women etc etc) but there weren't enough polling options! haha So if you would like to include that down below.. Feel Free!! Regardless, I know there is no official count of the actual size of the LGBT community. I have seen surveys that claim it makes up a very significant portion of the population, and others that claimed it is relatively tiny portion. I have seen surveys that claim more LGBT men, and others that claim more LGBT women. Its clear that there isn't really a good way of statistically recording a populations sexuality (unlike there is for race, or poverty, or political views.. etc) I just thought it would be fun to put out a simple poll to see if you knew more LGBT men or women (or perhaps relatively equal amounts).

What Girls & Guys Said

  • i definitely know more bi women than men

but gays and lesbians are about equal

    • precisely the same for me.

  • I'm from Jamaica, most of the gay people here are on fire...

    not saying thats ok

  • I know gay guys and transgenders that were originally guys. Never knowingly met a lesbian or female transgender. Maybe because theyre typically less 'out there' about it.

    • for me I've met mainly MtF trans but I've met an equal amount of lesbians and gays but I've largely only known of bi girls (probably 20+ ... compared to maybe a bi guy or 2)

    • I guess with the bi thing, that's cause girls can say they're bi and guys will find that attractive, where if a guy admits to being bi, I imagine that would be a turn off for most girls.

    • that does seem true yes :)

  • I don’t know any

  • It's about equal for me.

  • i know an equal amount, 0 and i'd like to keep it that way, thanks!

  • I probably would say I know more lgbt females

    • seems the most common answer but im not surprised it does seem like the LGBT community is mostly female

  • From what I heard it's one in every 10 people. Which sounds about right to me. I do a lot of musical theatre, and for us the numbers closer to 1 in every 2, needless to say I know a lot of both men and women.

    • in my experience I've known a relatively equal amount of lesbians and gays but when it comes to bisexuals i almost only ever knew women O. o

    • There's a lot of stigma around bisexual men. I know quite a few, but they don't come out because not even most LGBT accept them. LGBT aren't the best for accepting bisexual girls either, but straight guys think it's 'hot'.

    • Yes, I have noticed that bi girls tend to be attacked in a different way whereas Bi men are attacked for "YOU ARE JUST GAY AND can't ACCEPT IT!" while Gay men tend to be pointed out in public (its like we are trained to spot them.. and Gay men usually HAVE to come out and be very verbal about their sexuality) ... but when Bi women.. its always "ITS A FADE!! she's ACTUALLY STRAIGHT!!" even a lot of Lesbians tend to avoid them while for Lesbians.. they tend to stay pretty reclusive and exclusive haha

  • More lgbt women

    • seems the most common answer

    • It is, I think I've only know 3 gay and bisexual men.

  • women

  • Right now I don't know any.

  • Here in india, so many people don't "come out". but I've observed that there are many LGBT people here who are confused and suppressed.. When I studied in a girls' school for 3 years I saw a lot of girls developing feelings for other girls and some even liked both guys and girls. This was new and weird for many others.

    • Mhmm it does seem like the LGBT community is dominantly female or at least that female sexuality works in a way that makes it more fluid and open.

  • I don't know

    • lol thats fine I assumed the number 1 answer would either be equal amounts or more women. but if you dont know (or can't estimate) no problem :)

  • Women because most women are bisexual anyway

    • Dumb..

    • @CarpetDenim ya its pretty difficult to record the LGBT community.. ha lots of surveys say different things lots of girls are bi (and in my experience.. there seems to be more Bi girls than gay/lesbians/bi men combined) but clearly "most are bi".. is probably a bit much

    • Its fact

  • I know equal numbers...0/0

  • I know more men, so yeah. Some of them are gay.

  • I know more LGBT women.

  • I’m bi and out and only know bisexuals (majority women). However, apparently a lot of bi guys stay in the closet which may explain why we’re so few in number.

  • I don't know much but I would like to say bravo for following you're heart and being who you want to be no amount of judgment can change you. You be you that's the best you, you can be

    • im straight. hahaha

    • Either way what ever sexuality you choose at the end of the day we end up as bones every else rotes

    • So I choose not to embrace deference saves time

  • Especially at my school, I think there is like one or two lgbtq+ men and pretty much all of my female friends are lgbtq+ , I definitely know more lgbtq+ women

    • It does seem like Female sexuality is a bit more complex even a lot of straight girls I know.. tend to be "flexible" .. but they dont label themselves as gay or bi.

    • Yes exactly, I feel like a lot of girls I know, even if they classify as straight, could be either a little bi-curious or just like you said, flexible

    • yes :) I think its pretty cute
