I don't define lack of kink as vanilla. Sex can be imaginative, energetic and transcendent without employing fetishes like BDSM or group sex, not that I am criticizing people's tastes. I'm just saying that I have experienced amazing, mutually gratifying, ultimate one-on-one sex that didn't include anything too weird, yet was anything but vanilla.
Maybe when I hear vanilla versus kink, I'm just envisioning extreme examples where vanilla sounds lackluster and kink could include pain and degradation. In reality, I've engaged in mild variations of kink so, again, I'm not judging.
