The governor of Kansas vetoed n anti-LGBTQ+ bill while simultaneously letting a law pass requiring ID to view "acts of homosexuality."

Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly issued vetoes Friday against a ban on gender-affirming care for minors as well as two anti-abortion measures. She also let pass without her signature a law requiring age-verification to view content "harmful to minors."

Under Kansas criminal law, material "harmful to minors" includes nudity and "sexual content," which is defined in part as "acts of masturbation, homosexuality, or sexual intercourse."

Do you think this is a good idea to pass or not?

  • Nope it’s a bad idea, this means you are forcing people to register that they watch porn, also the type of porn they watch. The number of data breaches is at a crazy level, now imagine a data breach where you have registered that you watch porn and the type of porn, this then leaves people open to blackmail, follow on attacks as their details are sold online.
then as @purplepoppy says people will want access to this information and publish it.

it is also fairly easy to get fake ID, this means an increase in fake ID sales.

  • No

They are doing this to generate a database of who is partaking in porn.

Can you imagine the marketing mail you would start getting once they had a copy of your government ID?

There is absolutely no way to keep kids from watching porn. Even before it was plastered online we could get and view porn. Our uncles didn't put it in a safe.

  • No. Its one thing to have "ip adresss 2223455 likes watching granny lesbian porn" and " John Smith of 24 wood roads likes watching..."

Sooner or later a politician is going to demand access to that list, as will employers and neighbourhood watch groups.

  • I mean I get it but I guess it’ll mean having a user name and password word otherwise what’s the point?

  • Do you think you should have to provide your ID for age verification to view pornographic material online?

I'll be in the angry dome.

  • Bad Idea and doubt they could even come up with a way of controlling it as the hackers are always ahead in this computer game.

  • I get why but I dont want those websites to have my info

  • I don’t like it, but in all fairness it’s not specifically anti-LGBTQ, it’s directed against all sexual content, including straight stuff

  • That’s a horrible idea

  • I read the article and agree with her reasoning.

    • She actually didn’t comment at all on this just on her veto of an anti lgbtq bill… so not sure what you read

    • Right, sorry. I agree with her reasoning on the other vetoes, and assume it is the same for this one: against the law because it tramples on parents rights and targets a small group. I'm all for better regulations around porn, but if we're going to do that we should just do that, not make it a gay issue.

  • I'm glad hetero porn is ok.

    • How is this supposed to work anyway with vpn? Lets suppose Kansas gov't can stop people in Kansas watching porn. so they connects to a server in California and watch. Will just make VPN mandatory software.

    • im not sure but we will see when the legislation actually comes out. maybe they will address vpns. im gonna say its unlikely though because a lot of people in government are ignorant af when it comes to technology lol.

    • Kinda the point of VPNs is it is hard to stop it. And the big market point to sell it, is you can watch stuff you can't in your physical country. That would seem the exact use case for Kansas.

  • I think it would be good to have a way to verify your age, BUT... this is more likely a way for government to track who is viewing what and I don't think that is a good thing.

  • Yes, you should have to do so.

  • With all of the fraud that exists it is a bad to expose your photo ID to those sources.

  • Very bad idea

  • To watch ANY type of porn sure. To watch specific genres? No fucking way!

  • Terrible idea. It's actually nonsense.
