Just watched the Three Musketeers for the first time in years. Written pretty well. And some people have accents (mostly English) and some don’t. It’s Disney but Rebecca DeMornay’s tits are hanging out half way through. Which was a nice…perk…
Largely depends. Its like if you ever watch Robin hood Prince of theives everyone in that movie has an accent mostly because they are English actors. Christian Slater has an English accent, Mary Elizabeth Mastrano has an English accent, Morgan freeman playing a Moor has a mooring accent but Kevin kostner makes no attempt and is an American in medievel England. I mean if everyone else has English accent but the mainstar doesn't bother. Granted that they aren't talking old saxon or French Norman which is what was spoken back then as it was the Norman nobility of France who were ex vikings who took over Normandy and later England, Wales and Ireland as well as kingdoms in scilly and Italy and one in the holy land.
Yeah kinda like Valkery with Tom Cruise. He didn’t even try for any accent. But honestly he or Costner would have just failed miserably. Like Russel Crowe I’m Le Mis.

Have you seen the Michael York Musketeers films? Their fight scenes were fun. Mostly British accents then, too. Better than having Inspector Cluseau accents!
Speaking of which, a show that had great fun with accents was 'Allo 'Allo, a comedy take-off of Secret Army, where they used accents to indicate languages. People couldn't understand what the others were saying, if it was a different accent. And the English spy's terrible French was a French accent, but with vowels misplaced. "I was just pissing by...".
Also allo is great. I got a VPN to fool Uktv so I can watch full eps. Love Dave. They let comedians do the fck they want. Lol.

Yes, but it still needs to be understandable. A thick accent laden with regional dialect can be hard to follow. I think in a Disney version of the 3 Musketeers a generic French accent would do, I wouldn't want one of them to sound Scottish. In a more serious adaptation then the characters should take on regional French accents.
Incidentally in the uk, various newspapers have been kicking off about the accents in the rings of power, so even in fictional worlds they still get it wrong.

I could take or leave it for more fictitious movies like Brad Pitt in Snatch will require a few views to even start to make sense or you can just throw caution to the wind and go wild like in the Death of Stalin you have Steve Buscemi as Khrushchev, a cockney Stalin and Sean Bean rocks up as a field general in their normal voices with no hint of Russian accents
