I'd imagine it's not uncommon. Our society has a particular bugbear about sexual submissiveness in men, and many men are insecure about it as a result. Lacking a safe, healthy outlet for it, they turn to porn, which pushes the most extreme versions of pretty much everything it pushes (which is why you don't see websites advertising "Hot hand-holding action!"), which probably serves to spook off women these guys DO try to tell about it ("I want you to take control" is generally going to go over better than "I want you to whip me with a branding iron"), so they wind up desperately shotgunning their desires to every semi-available woman they encounter (if they're even THAT discriminating).

This in turn probably leads into a lot of unhealthy and outright abusive relationships. Just what we needed- MORE needless human suffering! Yay.
