Let's start with the definition and the ONE RULE of Friends With Benefits:

Friends With Benefits is when two people, who may be anything from virtual stranges all the way to close friends, decide to have sex with each other to satisfy their sexual urges. But it is understood by both parties that this is JUST SEX. Which leads to the ONE RULE:

"Thou Shalt NOT Expect 'More' (than JUST SEX) From A Friends With Benefits Arrangement."

This means: you should assume and expect that this will NEVER become a relationship, or that he/she will develop romantic feelings for you. In fact, you are specifically entering into this arrangement with the understanding that such feelings are to be avoided and, should they develop anyway on the part of one person, is THAT person's issue, and they should NOT *ever* have any expectations of the other partner returning those feelings.

Friends With Benefits is NOT a step along the path towards a relationship - it is in fact moving in the OPPOSITE direction.

It's great for people who aren't in a situation that is suitable for a relationship: a lack of free time, or only living somewhere for a limited amount of time, etc., but also for just people who just aren't looking for a relationship at the time but have sexual needs that they want to have satisfied. friends with benefits allows you to have a single partner, and to have sex together at your mutual convenience. This requires setting clear expectations and limitations:

- are the two of you monogamous with each other or free to seek other partners?
- how often will you meet for sex?
- what is the expectation if one of you finds a romantic partner?

This means that open and honest communication are absolutely essential, so the participants need to have the confidence and the self-worth to make sure they are getting what they need out of the arrangement. Remember, this is ADVANCED stuff - the shy or those who lack confidence should not be playing in this arena.

The benefits only work for independent individuals , so sexual release , a cuddle buddy etc but without the expectations or commitments a relationship has... just my thoughts

You have sex as friends and that’s it, yes you can really have an actual friendship but it can never go further than that because that would defeat the whole purpose of being friends with benefits.
