Has Porn taken over the parent and school's role in today's modern sex education?

I am referring to elementary and middle school age -- NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE but instead how it actually is in reality.

Which area of knowledge does the student get the most focused sex information from in terms of their time spend?

  • TBH, porn is POWERFUL! It's everywhere and indeed, its influence just as large. And from what I read here in G@G, it influenced both teens, and many in their 20s.

    But education?

As an ex-part-time-teacher myself, I would say, far from it.

First, education is positive. It teaches students how to learn, to deduce, and to teach.

Next, education offers step by step guide to assist students to think and then apply the knowledge to become creative educators themselves.

Finally, education that ethics into consideration and gloom students to become noble practitioners.

Porn failed miserably in all the above.

For example, a medicine student study to become a gynecologist.

Female private parts are shown. Sex are taught. To many extent, porn also showed the "same thing".

But when the medicine student graduates, he is a teacher himself, he knows how to self upgrade, and he is guided by ethics when he practices.

Porn "graduates" are criticized here in G@G as guys who fuck like a jackhammer and not make his girl orgasm.

I did not vote because porn is not even qualified to be placed as "educational material", not to mention an educator replacing any real human.

    • PS: I know your intent of asking this question. If I may, think along the Jedi and Sith in Star Wars. They are both similar in many ways. But porn is always the "Dark Side". Hence it's the "Jedi Masters", consisting of parents, teachers and all responsible adults to teach kids about sex. Caution: "do not underestimate the power of the dark side"

    • Thank you for your educated input Mr REG, all points taken :)

    • LOL! What a sweet name you gave me. THANKS!

  • Probably. I can say, schools here don’t teach sex ed.

I personally work closely with my own kids regarding educating them to be an overall healthy young adults.
    that all includes:

    1. build their self worth
    2. live with a goal/focus/purpose
    3. maintain inner peace, do not allow outside influence sway their inner core values
    4. Eat a healthy balance diet - lots of fruits/veggies/water/protein/less carbs
    5. excerise
    6. smile/don’t sweat the small things
    7. be kind to themselves and others.
    8. understand financial responsibilities/work hard and work smart

I help them build a set of strong wings to fly and a well grounded root to come back to.

love, sex, family… and all the above, they are free to come to me and have come to me to talk about

I talk to them based on their questions, age and change, grow with them for these discussions.
so far so good… a moms job is never finish but doors are always open for them and ears to listen.
I would rather they hear about sex from
    me than the media/friends/porn

    • You are just the most awesome mom! ... but why did I already know that would be the case? :)

  • Don't know about others but my mothers is very open about it, any questions at all... she would answer. She even gave my brothers condoms and banana's and explained how to put the on right to protect themselves.

We are open enough, I could ask her things that I would never actually want to know the answer to... like I could say, hey mom... you ever done fisting and she'd answer honestly.

No I have never asked, because I have a rule of if you don't wanna know the answer DO NOT ASK THE QUESTION!

and I really don't want to know about what her and my father have done.

    • Thanks for MHO

  • Heaven help us if it has. There is no way in Hell that kids should be watching porn. The youngest girl to ever get pregnant by a boy who had reached puberty was 6 I believe. That is ridiculous and you wonder in what other ways children are growing up to fast by watching that trash. What will be next? Young kids shooting each other over sexual jealousy? Will girls be labeled Ho's even younger than they are now?

Wow, I didn't know you could do that?

  • From what I have seen, Sex Ed in the US is really poor in places.

it is however a parents job to give factually accurate information to their kids as they grow up.

  • The sex education curriculum in the US is very poor. Lots of evidence on this forum to support this. However I found that some countries have much worse or none at all.

  • I would say lack of knowledge and information from both parents and school is the result of kids not knowing much about it in the first place, thus seeking understanding in the wrong mediums like porn or movies or secondhand sources

  • I expect most teens educate themselves. This is good if their parents and other adults won’t tell them the truth. It’s bad if they end up with misconceptions about relationships. Generally. i think it’s good, seeing that LGBTQ acceptance is highest among the youngest.

  • Kids learn by example.

  • It is wide spread, even in upper elementary school age kids. Parents like it, that is why they give their kids smart phones so they have unsupervised access to the internet and its influences.
Parents that give their kids smart phones are abusers.

  • I say it depends on the parents, my parents were terrible at sex ed growing up and the school was pretty terrible at it too. I had a sex ed teacher that focused 90% on men and the internal workings and ignored women because she thought it was sacred or something.

My fathers birds and bees conversation was literally, don't look at a naked girl, don't touch her or she'll get pregnant.

However for my daughter, we followed the rule if she is old enough to ask she is old enough to know at her level. We would tell her whatever she wanted to know, far better than my parents ever did.

  • I'm not around any kids, these days. The nearest ones are 3 houses away and they are mostly grade school, or younger so, I have no idea what kids are into, these days or how early they get started.
I'm pretty sure that in my parents' days, they didn't get "the talk" until about 13. I, actually, never got "the talk" but I was starting to get into sexual stuff about 10 or 11, I guess. Had I not been a loner, I would've probably gotten into it much sooner because of the sexual revolution happening when I was a kid and, a number of the kids I hung out with, who were at least 4 years younger than me, were already fairly well-versed and were teaching ME things! So, had I been a more social animal, I'm sure I would've known more about it at a younger age.

  • Unfortunately in a lot of cases yes. And the worse thing is that many boys will expect their partners to behave the same way in real life.

  • that role was never taken properly by school or parents anyway.

  • If you don't, as a parent, be proactive in the sex education of your children, other less desirable people will be.

  • I don't have kids, but I'm guessing they get more information, and misinformation, from media and friends, than anything they get from parents.

  • Nope, I see adult on here not understanding the basics all the time

  • Pretty much, especially anywhere that teaches ‘abstinence only’ sex ed.

  • It shouldn’t. But unfortunately it probably has

  • Not really its important parents an schools still teach it

  • It depends on the person.

  • I think porn contributes more in this modern era.

Anyways can you DM me, I'm already following your profile but unable to drop message.

  • I learned to have sex from porn.
