I took a pregnancy test 2 days early, and it came out negative, could I still be pregnant?

So, my husband and I are trying to have a baby. I got impatient, and used a pregnancy test from the dollar store, yes the $1 ones. My sister used it for all her pregnancies and they worked.

Anyway, I posted a photo of the type of test I used. You get droplets into the white clear thing I circled. (Don’t know what it’s called) and you put a droplet on the test. And then it gives you the results. People also say to take it in the morning but I took it at night. And I didn’t “go” that much. I kinda forced myself to “go”. It came out negative. I took it 2 days before my period. Could I still be pregnant?

  • I think not peeing much makes zero difference. as for 2 days before your period... I'll have to wait for some woman to help with that... I don't know how many days before your period you're SUPPOSED to take a pregnancy test. I do know that if it's at the wrong time of your cycle, then it'll affect your results.

I realize I'm not the first person to say this, but if EVER there was one thing to NOT get from the dollar store it's a pregnancy test. The whole problem is exactly the one you have right now:

Ok... it says negative... but it's from the dollar store..."do you trust it?" no. clearly you don't (and I don't blame you). You want to know for sure for sure. I don't see how you're ever going to believe that negative result REALLY means negative... unless you take a regular drug-store pregnancy test who's results you can believe to be right in your own mind. You really do need to trust that the test isn't faulty to believe a negative pregnancy test result. You need a proper test.

    • It makes a difference if I didn’t pee much because of the HCG concentration. HCG is the pregnancy hormone, the more concentrated it is, the easier the test will detect it. That’s why more expensive tests, will detect it because they’re more sensitive.

    • Well fair enough. I'm certainly not going to claim to be knowledgeable in this area. But, I would still think that there would be a detectable amount of HCG in a little pee or a lot of pee, but frankly, you may very well be right. But that seems to just compound your problem of "can I trust this negative result" so I stand by the "get a more expensive test". It's false economy to use a dollar store test you don't trust. You at minimum would have to buy several dollar store ones to compare... and even then you don't KNOW they are't all faulty. Obviously up to you... but I think your nuts to mess around with this and at the end of the day STILL never be sure. You need a proper test. THen the negative result, you can trust means negative.

    • Yeah, they tell you to test in the morning when it’s more concentrated. I’ll just wait to see if I miss my period or not.

  • Be patient, or just do like rabbits do... All day everyday.

In case you will not be pregnant in 2 months with this diet, just see Doc, both of you, something might be wrong with ether of you, as it could be his lack of performance not only your bodies fault.

  • usually to know for sure you should wait at least 1-2 weeks after your missed period. my mom took a bunch of tests when she was pregnant with my younger sister that came out negative, and she even got blood tested at the hospital for a pregnancy and that came out negative as well, so it was just too early in the pregnancy to tell. and don’t worry about what other people say haha, i used the dollar store pregnancy tests too and they work, although they aren’t as capable of detecting pregnancies earlier than some other tests they are still convenient.

  • Yes it is possible. The test is designed to pick up the presence of Β-HCG (aka pregnancy hormone) in the urine. The hormone is raised approx 6 - 10 days after the zygote has been created (successful combination of sperm and oocyte)
Most tests say to use in the morning because the concentration of the hormone in the urine is higher.
Usually those tests are taken AFTER the period is late.
In conclusion yes, it is possible that you got a false-negative result.

    P. S. The thing you have circled is called a pipette.

    • Thanks. I totally blanked on the name 😂

  • You should wait to take a pregnancy test until the week after your missed period for the most accurate result. If you don't want towait until you've missed your period, you should wait at least onne to two weeks after you had sex. If you are pregnant, your body needs time to develop detectable levels of HCG. You always check it in the morning because that's when the pregnancy hormones are most concentrated.

  • Honestly, to be 100% sure, I would recommend to take it after the day of your missed period. That's what they usually recommend with pregnancy tests. Your body needs some time to develop the HCG hormone which usually is more accurate the longer you wait.

So wait until the day of your period, and if you don't get them, then take a test again a day or two after that. It should be more accurate by then.

  • You should wait a week maybe that's when it will usually show

    • Wait you said you took it before your period came on?

    • Yeah. Two days before.

    • If you're on your period there is a huge chance you are not pregnant

  • well make sure to still have sex just in case. you should be ovulating if your not pregnant

    • You don’t ovulate 2 days before your period. You don’t know how it works.

    • no i just misunderstood I was thinking 2 days before your ovulation period not menstruation period

  • You might as well use a magic eight ball if you are going to relay on a test from the dollar store.

I would say to keep smashing.

  • Try again when you're supposed to and see the results then.

  • Wait some more time and do it the right way, in the morning. I know it's hard but don't let impatience get in the way

  • You might not be. You can try again in another 3 days if your period doesn't start.

  • The chances are still 50/50. It depends what test you used and how you used it. It is always best to go to the doctor or pharmacist and do the test there and then.
