Is a fake pregnancy prank worse than a fake proposal?

So, my boyfriend is super paranoid about getting me pregnant, even after three years together, we use condoms and birth control.

I have been wanting to get e gaged for some time now but he’s telling me not until he finishes his studies and gets a solid job but I think that’s just stalling we don’t have to get married yet just engaged.

Anyway I thought I’d play a funny, small prank on him and say I’m pregnant, after a few drinks with my girls, some of them encouraged me, saying it would be funny so I got a fake positive test online and told him we need to talk, and sat down and showed him and said I was pregnant.

He was quiet for a second, then left the room and came back with a ring box, and got down on one knee, I felt bad for a second but so happy finally, and the opened the ring box, and there was a f-cking note in there saying “ha ha, got you”, and basically he said that he knew I was pranking him so he decided to counter prank me, and I think it was nasty, we got in a big fight and he kept defending himself with “you started it” and he won’t tell me how he found out and none of my friends will own up, he told me to leave and he needs to think about our relationship but I think it’s not something to break up over we both did wrong his was just a bit more nasty because he knows I want it.

  • So he knows you want marriage and you know he doesn't want kids. So you decided to do something mean to him and he gir back at you in the same way. Honestly I think it's the same level seeing as what you two did. My sister's ex thought you had to get married within a year of proposing. Tell him you don't care if you are engaged for years before getting married. You've decided to be with him forever. You've decided to have his children. You will wait until he is ready to get married and have children, but if he is committed he can at least propose and then decide on marriage when he is financially stable. Maybe even waive the ringing he isn't financially able CD to get one.

  • So basically, you did something spiteful and got upset that he was spiteful back. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and no action was worse than the other, you both acted childishly. The way I see it, YOU literally have two options, and that is to either accept his stance on proposing and just deal with it until he is ready, or leave him and wait for someone who is on the same page as you about these things. But you are an adult and need to behave as such. Come to terms with the fact that you cannot twist his arm into changing his mind, or being the man that you need. He either is or he isn’t, and you need to decide what that is going to mean for you.

    It's not about which prank was worse. It's about the fact that you lied to him about something that is not a joking matter and his response was exactly what you deserved.

    Frankly, if I were in his shoes I would be seriously reconsidering my relationship with you too. I would seriously be asking myself if you have just shown your true colors and would go even further and go off birth control to get pregnant and force him to marry you. That sounds like a recipe for a lot of resentment and a failed relationship, and then you've brought a child into the middle of it.
