Is it bad to always be in high heels?

My roommate is always in heels. She can't goes out without high heeled shoes or high heeled sandals. At home, she switches her outside shoes with high heeled flip-flops and there is no way she removes them. She even showers and sleeps with them which is weird. I asked her why she does that and she answered she wouldn't feel confident with flat shoes and even less with barefeet.
Once, I hided the high-heeled flip-flops she was wearing during the night, trying to not awake her. I waited her reaction next morning. When she woke up, she was in panic and had to wait at least 5 minutes before deciding to put a foot on the ground. She ran everywhere in the room to find her missing shoes. She was on her tip-toes and always had a foot in the air, alternating between each foot like the floor was burning. I noticed her soles were red and soft like babies' ones because she's never barefoot. I finally give her back the flip-flops and she really disliked the joke. She said she had not been barefoot since early teenage.
I'm writing here because I want to know what are the risk fir her and how I can help her because I think it's wrong. When I saw her walking on her toes even with bare feet, I was concerned by her health.

  • The worst that can happen to her is hallux valgus (bunions) and shortened tendons which will hurt when she decides to put her foot down full flat.

At this rate, my best guess is that she will require surgical foot correction for the hallux valgus and for hammer toes if she keeps wearing those high heels. There is no need to have 8'' high high heels for hallux valgus to form within a few years.

Besides being ugly, hallux valgus will make her feet look odd and every pair of shoes that are narrow in the front will hurt like being stabbed by a knife with every step.

    • Oh yes that's a problem. I guess her tendons are already damages because he can't walk with feet down full flat

    • That is correct. She needs to do some extension exercises to stretch her tendons again.

    • I guess she doesn't want because she doesn't plan to walk without heels. But I'll talk to her anyway

  • I had a girlfriend who always wore heels, even if they were just corky wedgies.
She even wore them when we walked up and down hills all over San Francisco. I couldn't understand how she could do it. When I asked her why she did, she said her legs looked funny when she didn't wear heels. That was totally untrue. She had the cutest, sexiest legs! But she was 5'2" and I think she was a bit insecure about that even though there was no need. She was adorable.
She wasn't a fanatic, though. She went barefoot around the house and wore wore sneekers/running shoes to exercise.

  • There are a couple of long-term issues with wearing high heels a lot, spinal problems and osteoarthritis in the spine, also can lead to issues with the achilles tendon. Depending on how long she has been doing this it's quite possible she can't put her foot flat on the floor anymore.

    • No she can't put her foot flat but I think sh doesn't want to do it anyway as she's never without her heels

    • Sounds like she might have some psychological issues surrounding it.

    • Yes I think so. She doesn't even stay on her couch without high heels on
