Even if the teen is 16 or 17 but having sex with an adult, the police should be called as the act is still illegal.
Depends on where you're from, 16 could be considered consenting age and therefore the cops won't do anything unless it is a parent or guardian doing the calling.

It would depend on who initiated it. If the adult persued the teenager then call the police, if the teen persued the adult then getting the police involved may not stop it from happening again, the teen may just move on to the next person and be more secretive about it so the parents don't find out.
Kids sneaking behind your back and not telling you where they are causes more problems than it solves.
Talking to the teen and try to figure out why they felt the need to be sexual with an adult may be a better choice of action. If the teen feels that the parent is against them and hates them then there is no easy resolve, being open and honest on both parties is the only way to resolve the issue.

I disagree the adult is still guilty because the adult should have stopped it. It’s not about who initiated it because the full responsibility lies on the adult.
Open communication between kids and parents solves more issues than it causes, children of all ages need to have trust in their parents before they will be willing to be honest and open.

I'm not saying that the adult isn't at fault I'm saying that if the teen initiated it then the adult getting in trouble does not stop the teen from repeating their actions. As a parent the concern should be the child not that the adult pays.
