I've had several expeeinces with girls getting positions solely because they were Female... I mean there were eight more qualified, competent guys but nooooo. She needs a leg up as a girl in a "man's field".

It's a myth. For thousands of years soceity forced men to take care of women and attend to their every needs while committing their bodies to back breaking labour, dangers, cold and pain while women stayed at home safe, warm and secure. Finally thanks to labour saving devices and contraception men have been largely free from the burden of women's care though most women want all the benefits they enjoyed in the past with all the freedoms of the present with none of the responsibility. I say equal rights not special treatment.

There has been male privilege through the ages at varying degrees dependant on religion and culture. There has also been female privlige too such as "women and children first" "offer your seat to the lady", divorce settlement and so on, probably not as advantages as was male privledge. Now with feminism, gender equality and reverse discrimination there is far less male privlige to an extent to where it really doesn't warrant mention as an issue.
