I often think that a legal age of 18 for adulthood is ridiculous, it allows people to manipulate the system. Do adult crimes while being 15, 16, or 17 knowing they will get a hand slap vs. adult sentences.

I've always thought, if your old enough to have sex, you must be old enough to be a parent and thus you can be an adult... in my state, if someone has a baby they are automatically emancipated.

I get it though, society has to pick an age and 18 is pretty common for adulthood. There are logical reasons for it, same thing with restrictions on buying alcohol and other limitations until 21, there is a reason for all that because people under those ages are less responsible and aren't fully mature.

The age of consent thing seems arbitrary. There is no universally agreed upon age.

I think 18 is based on the end of high school. 16 seems more reasonable to me. I was having consensual sex with 14, 15, 16 year old girlfriends when I was in high school. And when I turned 18, my girlfriend was still 16, so when I was 20, she finally turned 18 and became "legal".

Honestly, 18 year old girls are fully developed. They were when they were 17, too. A lot of 15 and 16 year old girls are fully developed and eager to be sexual.

I think the age of consent is meant to deter older guys (in their 20s, 30s and older) from luring middle and high school girls into sex.

Almost everywhere, there are provisions in the law that make it legal for say: a 15 year old to have sex with a 16 year old. It's just not legal for a 20 year old to have sex with a 16 year old. But don't worry... we aren't all criminals for fucking before 18😋

I think it's even MORE ironic that the age of consent is 16 in 16 states, 18 in 11 states, but you can't legally buy a beer unless your 21 in all 50 states (some military exceptions). LOL Theoretically, you could be a mother of 5 if you have a baby each year from the time you're 16 before you'd be deemed "adult enough or responsible enough" to legally have a Coors Light. LOL
