Men, when flying in a plane, have you ever gotten hard, on take-off?

I have a friend who told me that when he flies in an airplane, on take-off, he gets somewhat hard. He doesn't know why. We wonder if it's about the pressure, the drag, or something more psychological such as the excitement of getting up in the sky in this big, engineered machine. He's not particularly anxious about flying.
It's not about being touched by a woman sitting next to him (he said that would be fun, but it's not what we're talking about in this case.)
Anyone experienced this, and anyone have any ideas why?

Nope, this has never happened to me.

I'm female. Or I've never flown in a plane so I don't know.

  • I didn't experience this from takeoff or flying, but have from sleep. One clue I would offer you is that the male erection is a feature of the parasympathetic nervous system. Not the excitatory, sympathetic, "fight or flight", part but the other end of the spectrum, often referred to as "rest and digest".

With this knowledge, we can assume whatever is triggering the erection it is more due to being relaxed than to being excited. It might have something to do with the pressure of takeoff and feeling secure, or the whole body sensation being somewhat like a massage. I would guess it is similar to the erection men get when asleep or half asleep, that "morning wood" type.

    • Love this answer ❤

  • Yes it's something to do with air pressure. There's a thing called 'everest boners'

    • Ah ha! Great article you found. Thank you so much. Very interesting.

  • 🤣🤣🤣I have to know the replies to this one lolol...
But maybe being in the plane and take off makes him think of the "mile high club" and "lift off" happens 🤣

    • Hmm. I'll have to ask him. He did mention the Mile High Club when we talked about it. "But the washrooms are too small, so..."

    • See, lololol there might be something to it maybe he's subconsciously thinking of it, although the only time I flew, I had bad problems with my ears and the kept feeling like they were gonna pop, maybe the pressure gets to the ding ding and it "pops" too 🤣🤣

    • Oh I hate that feeling! I've suffered with real bad allergies most of my life, and sometimes there is no choice but to fly already congested. It hurts. And it seems to really sock in that fluid and then you're messed up for the whole trip. He gets it on take-off, so we know it can't be an elevation pressure thing. But there sort of is pressure when it takes off. I like that feeling. It's exciting. (But not sexually exciting, for me.)

  • I've flown quite a few times in various private planes, including a two seat jet and a two seat, bi-wing. Of course, I have flown in commercial planes, too. But I've never gotten hard. I wonder if that reaction would be caused by a feeling in the gut, like excited butterflies that are similar to sexual arousal.

  • For me, it feels more like a monster truck when it starts moving, for me, it's more of an odd feeling but for others I could see that being exciting and arousing 🤔

  • No. And I'm a pilot. I've done over a hundred take offs. Can't recall getting hard on them, unless I was already hard. I do get a thrill, but it's not erotic

  • I don't think this has ever happened to me.

  • I think it's the vibration from the engines on takeoff. I used to experience the same thing riding on some buses.

  • Men can get hard if there is enough pressure on the lower spine, close to the very bottom.

  • I fly for a living. Nope never happened. Much more on my mind during a takeoff roll If a guy is getting horny during the take off roll he needs to get another job.

  • Hmm i didn't know there was a thing called 'Airplane boner' untill now. I haven't experienced this but a possible explanation would be tbe impact of change in pressure. Tbe drop off, take off and landing contribute to blood flow to the lower part of the body including the pelvic areas which may pump the vessels to give an increase in the volume of penis or it could be beautiful women or both 😉

  • Maybe if I was flying to meet a babe or something but not just from the act of flying or anything like that

  • It's been many years since I flew last. But I don't recall this happening to me.

  • I was absolutely terrified when I last flew. I was not hard at all.

  • If it's anything it would be an adrenaline rush from the acceleration. It's too bad the bathroom are so small anymore. I flew the Concorde to London from JFK, NY and the bathrooms were large enough for me and a flight attendant to welcome me to the mile high club. You can't do that outside of 1st class in US anymore and you certainly can't do it at take off since the "remain seated" light is always on. I'm sure the flight attendant had already been a member, many are. But it was my introduction to it. The only thing it offers is that turbulence feels great. She did show me a few other ways to have sex on plane, the best involved getting a couple of blankets ( always available) and slipping pants off.

  • I've flown on a few thousand flights.
That's never happened to me before.

  • I can't remember this ever happening to me. But now I'm going to be more aware of it in the future

  • The only thing I can think of that would cause this is the thrill of going 200+ MPH

    • Oh yeah, I forgot about speed. It's rare to go that fast, isn't it.

    • When I was on a plane at cruising altitude it was 500 and then the speedometer I was using gave up the will to live.

    • lolol. Funny 👏

  • When I found out they had free peanuts. I asked over and over because they stewardess had that look, yea, that look

  • No never I’m too concerned about the takeoff

  • I get a little excited but never got hard.

    • Down there, you mean, right? Yeah could be the same thing with my friend. Maybe like 'a rumblin' rather than a 'full court press.'

    • Actually no, not even that for me. I only get a tingling sensation down my spine. This is interesting though. I’ll be mindful of it next time I board an airplane.

  • I trained to be a pilot about 12 years ago. There are way too many check-lists to execute, so sexual arousal is the last thing on one's mind.
