Though being falsely accused of rape would be a socially traumatizing event, being physically raped would be socially, physically and psychologically devastating.
Who knows how long it would take for a person to feel emotionally safe with another person? How would you learn to trust yourself in an intimate relationship with another person? You would likely question your ability to "read" people. You'd ask yourself, "How did I not KNOW something was wrong with X? How did I not see it coming?"
It might be worse for men who are "supposed to be able to defend themselves."
Being physically attacked in so intimate a manner is far worse than being accused of attacking someone. Your BODY is violated without your permission or acceptance. Your body is all you have and is a large part of your being. Having body autonomy taken away damages a person for a long time. It takes concerted effort to rebuild a feeling of being safe, of trusting other people and of being whole again.0 0 0 0

Falsely accusing someone of any crime is the worst crime there is. It changes people into something they are not or shouldn't be. 5 years ago I was a pacifist now I am locked and loaded with ultimatums and promises to execute any law enforcement officer attempting to serve a fictitious warrant for my arrest for a crime I never could would or even conceive of committing which is the battery of a woman in a domestic situation. Unless of course that woman is wearing a badge trying to serve that warrant and that would not be in the domestic situation. The hypocrisy of criminalizing someone who's not a criminal like using them of doing something that is the furthest from anything that they could possibly do goes beyond reason or sanity. I still could never lay hands on a lady or text someone without provocation but for the first time in my life I'm more than ready and even eager to lay down serious fire suppression on people who call themselves police who are doing just the opposite for the purpose of ruining people's lives. What's worse is accusing someone of something like that when they did not commit that criminal act? I don't know the answer to that, and I don't think I want to. I suspect that that kind of behavior, falsely criminalizing people, is the true personification of pure evil, if such a thing really does exist, beyond this metaphor form.

I can't imagine how HORRIFIC, it could be, as a woman, to be raped!! To be so VIOLATED, and abused, and it disgusts me, that some of my gender can do that!!
I have known some, falsely accused, though, and even when it is proven to be a false accusation, he is FUCKED, FOREVER!! It is on his record, for the rest of his life, but the one that lied, and accused, didn't face any charges, and went free. She TOTALLY fucked up this one guy's life, forever.
She should have been charged, and sent to prison, for lying, at the very least!!0 0 0 0

Both are horrible and both can happen to anybody. One is more likely to happen to women and the other is more likely to happen to men, but they both carry horrible and long lasting effects.
Rape has more physical effects
Being falsely accused has more societal effects
Both are psychologically damaging.
Which is worse? Depends on how well a person is able to recover.
I have been assaulted, but never fully raped, thankfully, But even that was rather frightening4 2 0 0Sorry to hear you were assaulted. That’s horrible.
I hope you killed the pig
Killed, no. Shamed to the point where friends dropped him.

11 43I'm sure being raped is worse, but being falsely accused would be a pretty close second in many situations. Men have lost everything (family, children, business, freedom, etc.) over false accusations, so while still not as bad as being raped, it's very, very serious.
1 0 0 0Both are horrible... Both are crimes committed by truly horrible, sick individuals... Both can irretrievably damage a person's life, reputation, and loss of the person they were before, and that's something that person will never get back... And both should go to prison for their crimes...
2 0 0 0Being falsely accused because you don't go to prison for years for being raped. Of course that is assuming he doesn't get exonerated. If he is then being raped is worse.
0 0 0 0Both are equally bad, mainly due to the psychological abuse and being made to feel helpless. A woman may be raped, but also has tons of support out there and, if she can get away from the rapist in her life, can start to recover. Usually, if a man is falsely accused of rape, he is "guilty until proven innocent" and his life is quickly destroyed unfairly, and he usually can't even seek legal action to combat the false rapist, as laws in the West still allow this heinous act to be completely legal and happen with zero consequences.
So they're both equally bad in my opinion because there's more of a chance of not being able to get justice for a false rapist.1 0 0 0One has more internal trauma and the other external if you compare the two. As a survivor myself, I honestly feel like it's almost tied. Being falsely accused of something as horrible as rape can literally destroy a person's life both internally and externally but on a different level than a rape victim. I think its easier to recover from a false accusation than a physical and emotional violation however so that is why I would deem rape worse.
