"C-cup" really means nothing if the band size (the #, such as the 32 in 32C) isn't mentioned.

Women with the smallest C-cups often have smaller breasts than many women with A-cups and B-cups. For example, women such as myself who have a 28C have smaller breasts than do women with a 32B or 34A. 28C (and 26D) are equivalent in size to a 30B or 32A; they're simply on a smaller ribcage (hence the lower #) and protrude outward more (hence the higher letter).

Here are some examples of different bands of C-cup. The pictures have all been taken from Bratabase. Which of these images most closely resembles what you imagine when you hear the term "C-cup"?

Based on the pictures i would say 38C

That 36C isn't a 36C, those breasts are clearly larger than the other breasts.

Regarding your update information, ok thats interesting but i dont think it means what you think it means.

Im 40 years old and i have literally just learnt in this thread that breast size increases with band size even with the same cup and who the fuck has a 28inch chest? That doesn't sound common to me, so why would you suggest that outlying data should be considered average data?

I had a quick look around trying to find some data, Im not sure these are the best sources of information but the suggested average is about 34 / 36 WAY bigger than 28.

Third picture or 32C is what I imagine.
The bra size chart is so confusing. I understand how you measure around and below the breast and then around to the tip of the breast, but what's with the doubles and triples? And why can the same size have a different combination of numbers and letters?

United States are weird and I don't get their sizes, but I know what problem you're talking about.
Men imagine "C cup" to be full and more than handful or at least handful, while it's not.
I hate when they say that they prefer C cup because I know that they actually don't

I'm not wasting time. I'm legit asking... what brought this question up? I'm just curious. It's hard to have "productive insights" with such a random and unproductive question. Unless you're trying to see how many people, (I'm assuming you have C-cup size breast) when given a general size think of your size for some odd reason. So I'm just generally curious.

To truly answer your question... I don't think of anything in particular. Band size doesn't really mean much anyway, but I have a DD cup size so I don't really have a huge opinion on "what I imagine"

Band size really does matter quite a lot. Look at the difference between the first and last image. They are both C-cups, but the last image is much bigger, due to the large difference in band.

I mean sure? But relatively that person would have a D cup. So? Hell, you could be a 32C but some bras you're a 34 or a 36. Band size doesn't matter when it comes to fit because of how much is changes. Like I'm a 42-44DD. Band size doesn't mean much.

32-34 c looks about right to what I traditionally think of as a c cup. I honestly had no idea that bra sizes worked this way at all. The 42-44 c is more what I imagined the mid d cup range to be. Always interested to find out random things like this though. In all seriousness though could someone give me a simple explanation of bra sizes, because I have no idea how this works.

Although I don't really imagine bras when talking about breast sizes, I just imagine the form and the way breasts are affected by gravity in an upright position.

In the case of Cs, I imagine breasts with enough volume to be affected in such a way that they form an "overhang", that is, the lowest part of the boob is no longer the crease, the boob starts extending past it due to being a little more bottom heavy.

The difference from Bs in my mind, is that Bs do not have enough volume to hang past the crease, even if they are a little more bottom heavy than As.

I get sister sizes - that all those color groups on the chart have the same bust measure, with just different rib cages.

What I don't get is why a 36" chest with 31" ribs would look so different from a 30" chest with 25" rib cage in terms of how much the breasts themselves have volume.

Circumference is Pi X diameter ish. So basically 5” more circumference should be same increase in radius which is what I would have thought we’d notice most. Must think about the math more.

Both 32A and 28C (and 30B and 26D) boobs are 240 cubic centimeters in size. They're just proportioned differently (28C is on a smaller ribcage than a 32A).

the cups are there for a reason. the number signifies the circumference of the upper torso. if you have say D cup boobs but wear a A cup bra, your boob will be squeezed down with no CUP to go into. if you wear a D cup bra while having A cup boobs, your boobs wil flop around in those cups, not being supported. either way it looks awkward. if it was so easy, girls wouldn't have such a hard time finding well fitting bras. yes obviously your boobs are part of the upper torso measurement, that's why it somewhat fits but it won't look or feel good if you wear the wrong cup.

But they DO carry the same volume. They're just proportioned differently, which is what will make it uncomfortable if you stray too far.

So we're in agreement that wearing a sister size isn't ideal. But where we're disagreeing is how, in your post, you said that sister sizes (such as 28C and 32A) aren't the same volume as each other.

I'll give an example. Two people can weigh 150 pounds, while one is much taller than the other. Obviously they wouldn't fit into the same clothes, because their bodies are proportioned differently. But their bodies DO consist of the same volume (they weigh the same). You get what I mean?

I honestly haven't studied breast sizes enough to be able to develop a skill of visually estimating their size. When I have looked at breasts before (pictures, not in person), I honestly wasn't really thinking a whole lot about what size they were; I was just thinking about how pretty they looked.
