  • Human body parts are censored in social media in the name of nudity is probably because of the Puritans, and maybe the Victorians. The idea that the human body is shameful almost certainly originated with them, and it simply trickled down from there to the point where we do not even question our relationship with clothing and nudity today. Most people believe that children would be irrevocably harmed by seeing nudity. An ill-conceived fear is that, seeing parts of the human anatomy may induce them to have sex early or promiscuously. It will “corrupt” them. At the same time, we allow children to watch violent cartoons in which characters hit others, disrespect others, and kill others. This is far more harmful and corrupting than seeing parts of the human body.

    The censorship of nipples and breasts and penises on social media is a large discussion point, as social media becomes an increasing prevalent part of modern life. Some media allow post-mastectomy and breastfeeding images - but only if the infant’s mouth is covering the nipple, and nude female breasts if they are involved in an ‘acts of protest’, or involved in a post about gender confirmation surgery. However, these guidelines are very loose, and leave room for a lot of overly sexualized discrimination. Most of them gives the reasoning that they cannot permit explicit nudity on the site. The issue is not the age of the users, but the fact that they are being raised in a society that teaches them that woman’s bodies should be covered so as not to allude to an overtly sexual existence. Censorship itself is feeding the social ‘taboo’ and common fetishisation surrounding female bodies to increases sexualization. The majority of businesses profit comes from the sexualization of women’s naked bodies: in advertising, music, fashion.

    The female nipple is something that should be celebrated. It has nourished almost the entire human race and it is much more than just a component of pornography. Social media has the potential to be a successful outlet for body positivity and inclusivity. If female nudity became normalized, these images would represent more than just sex, and in reality, act as a celebration of the human body and its nourishing capabilities.

    Children being raised to think that nudity is abnormal or wrong are a relatively recent phenomenon. Children in ancient Asia and Egypt were entirely naked until the age of say 12 because off hot environment and clothing was expensive for most of humans. Most people did not own more than two or three set of simple cloths for this reason. Up until the 18th century, most people lived in single room houses, where children somewhere exposed to familial nudity or near nudity on a daily basis. It is likely that children saw their parents having sex somewhat frequently compared to now. Yet we do not hear a great number of historians, scientists, or social workers commenting much on nudity during those days, because it was normalized, barely worth mentioning.

    The male nipple can be view by all and on every form of media and anywhere even if children will see it.
    However the female nipple even despite their important roll they play at sustaining life are seen by society as obscene.
    Society has made an exposed female nipple a sexually explicit. Yet both men and women can be sexually aroused by nipple stimulation however only women are expected to cover it while men are not.
    Biologically there is not much difference between a male nipple and Female nipple so the reason isn't biological. Instead it is psychological. Society casts judgement on females presenting their bodies especially on social media.
    @Erron_Black you are absolutely right. It makes no sense to just cover the nipple because we do know what's there and the rest of the skin is exposed. Its A (false) psychological sense of decency to have them covered.
    The phrase "psych" them out comes to mind...
    That is exactly what the censor is doing... Fooling us to think we are being decent therefore implying that we are undecent people if we view a woman's nipples.

  • I don't really know, but I think it's because female nipples are often sexualized on TV or just in reality. But it also could be that the woman isn't comfortable showing her nipples, knowing that they might be sexualized, because that's how I'd feel. Or maybe it's just how some people are taught to think. I'm not allowed to walk naked around the house if my dads home, if I do, I have to cover my chest. I got in trouble once because I changed in the hallway and hung all my clothes on a hook on the door (because of covid) and then I walked to my room, I was looking at my dad to make sure that he didn't see me, but he was looking at me, and then my parents got mad and said that I was "acting like I did nothing wrong". It's kinda weird that men's nipples don't get censored, but my best guess is because female nipples are different than male nipples because some people desire them and they're used during sex? But, guys nipples can also be used during sex, anything can be used during sex, really.

    I know I might be wrong, but I don't really know why, it's just my best guess.
