Why are pleasures such as sex, considered sin by Christian religions?

I mean, God wants us to be happy but we are happy by receiving those forbbiden pleasures. If they are a sin, why do they exist then? I'm atheist okay, I'm just curious.

  • You made a huge error in your premise, only sex outside of marriage is sin.
Married people can rock each others worlds.

    • Wow, I just read some of the replies... what a bunch of babbling idiots. Here is what 5 minutes of research gets you... from the actual BIBLE. Genesis 1:28 New International Version (NIV) God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Be fruitful and multiply hence... HAVE SEX. Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Hence, sex within marriage... great, sex outside of marriage God will judge. That is what scripture teaches. Husband and wife sex... awesome! Hookups with clubbers? God will judge.

    • That is what it ACTUALLY SAYS, the rest of comments are just ignorant rabble. Oh here is another pro marriage sex verse: Proverbs 5:18-19 King James Version (KJV) Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. Be ravished always with her love, let her breasts satisy you? Sounds VERY PRO marriage sex. OP's premise is soooooooooo off.

  • Makes no sense to me to be honest it’s eather you love sex or you don’t love sex , I love sex and God made me this way so I don’t look at it as a sin I look at it that I am doing a good deed , if I get the girl off then to me i did a good deed lol it’s not my fault that I was born with this thing between my legs that feels so good when it is touched and licked and inside a vagina , but I guess it comes down to when you are supposed to use it , I guess we are supposed to be married first so before marriage it’s considered a sin but after marriage it be considered a miracle lol

  • Where does it say that in Scripture?

  • None

  • Sex can be pleasurable, but it's also extremely dangerous. Sex can ruin your life, and other people's life.

Heroin is pleasurable too, that doesn't mean it's safe and fine.

    Same concept.

Christians can enjoy sex just as much as any hedonist. We just have it with one person.

  • Religous pharisees think 'everything' is a sin, ignore them, they probably do even worse behind closed doors.

God made sex to be enjoyed between a man and woman who are joined in marriage.

As for "masturbation", I don't really know much about that, so that's between you and God. (Whether you believe or not is irrelevant.)

  • Why would you masturbate? I because you are having lustful thoughts. Sex is not a sin no sin as long as it's between man and women according to the Bible and I believe it too
    Logic can't explain the Bible
    Simple as that.

  • no its the whole sex before marriage and unprotected straight sex leads to kids eventually...
and way back when: babies born out of wedlock were a familys shame etc etc and still are in ultra conservative christan groups

  • From what I gather from MrOracles post, religions made that rule up so they could keep people going to their church and that it's not a mandate from God.
His answer was very informative and fits in with my already suspicions involving current day religion.

  • Because it's a fantasy book.

  • In my opinion, religions are too old to follow every rule. I am Christian, but I do have sex and do lots of other things that are considered sin. And I don't feel bad about that. Religion should be about making yourself better person and finding peace when you need it, not about beating yourself up cause you had sex or drank alcohol...

    • You're not a true Christian if you aren't following God's word dum dum. I'm saying that as someone who isn't even a believer. Christianity teaches yes we are sinful by nature and must repent but if you continue that same behavior knowingly you might as well have never repented. You are not living nor are you even trying to live a Christianly life.

  • Its doing it in the wrong way.

  • Oh shit I gotta fap now. I wanna have a tour of hell.

Why are pleasures such as sex, considered sin by Christian religions?
  • Because induldging in hedonism doesn't bring society forward.

  • Christian are Muslim like , they'll even allahu ackbar people who push them far enough.

  • Sex before marriage is a sin not sex itself also sin exist because it was brought into this world by what Adam and Eve did.

  • I think something that is too good if you keep enjoy it, it could lead to addiction and dangerous event such as unwanted child or abortion etc. Sex itself is good no matter with your spouse or not. The problem lies in our addiction. Like we keep want more and more after we have tried it once. Even after we have done it lots of times, we are not satisfied and tend to find another person to do it with us. So there is no end and keeps repeating the same addiction again and again. So I would say we could enjoy it but we should not be really depend on it too much. I mean there are lots of things that could give you happiness besides sex itself. So as long as you find other methods that could make you feel happy, you should be able to enjoy yourself and it should not be a sin either meaning there is no bad event happen from the pleasure that you do.

  • Fun is sinful

  • Because it's actually the devil and they want you to be a boring miserable piece of shit until you're dead

  • The sex isn't the sinful part. It's about the preoccupation someone places on something other than God, and the lack of discipline you show by giving into that desire. If you run around lusting over everyone you meet enough to be having sex with them, not only are you majorly lacking in self control (and endangering your health), but you are preventing yourself from focusing on more productive things. In Christianity and Islam's case, that productive thing would be living out God's (or Allah's) teachings, and seeking to improve the community around you.
