  • It's mostly bc they look cute, and Japan has different view on nudity and stuff in a Broader sense.

    Also the ratio of men is lesser than that of women and that is why I guess age of consent is 13 bc girls almost start developing at the age of 8 and by 13are mostly developed. and in nowadays people already have sex by the age of 16 not all {don't kill me } . Take gag for instance so many people have admitted they already had sex by 16and no regrets, guess it might work for them in certain ways.

    And they are one of the most hardworking like put a lot of hours in work process they have a hierarchical system and they are also horny people this all may include the factors and mainly they encash on cuteness I had once read some where that the japenese ancestors were frogs and were teased a lot for that reason, so they worked towards the beautification of themselves and the result of that Is now what you find cutest people I am not sure how real that story is also they give high preference to beauty have you seen the amount of cosmetic surgeons and thd supplements in Japan so I think that's the reason they want the characters to be cute as fuck...

  • Japanese manga/anime fans are sorta pedo. Lolicon, you know. Also there are weirdos in Akihabara that pay more for anime-looking sex doll than real prostitute at love hotel (real prostitutes are really cheap here -- like $30-$60/hour -- but the anime lovers pay like $500/dollar for anime sex doll). I think it comes from censorship. Japanese only see mosaic vagina. So that makes them play too much to imagination. And their imagination goes towards cartoons and dumb cute girls. If they saw real woman's vagina, probably they would like that. Or at least they get used to it instead of the cartoon stuff.

  • The reason why is because Japan is very big on things that are "kawaii" (cute). Just like how sex sells here, cuteness sells in Japan. It is just part of their culture in general. They give more freedom to artwork than most countries. To them as long as it is fictional and doesn't harm anybody, they don't care. Japan does have strict laws though and tends to be the most safest place to live on earth.

    • I kind of get what you're saying. I know there are some anime characters who look really young but are actually 18+ in the anime. I usually think if they aren't 18, then it's best to not make them sexual. I'm not sure if the reason why they do that is to cater to people who are 13-17 years. old or not. But I would guess on one side no since in some rated mature anime they still have underage characters. I would say maybe we should ask Japan but I'm not sure if they'd answer us or not.

  • I think it started off as a slight exaggeration of neotenous features being typical of the Japanese animation style, used to increase visual appeal. Disney, particularly Glen Keane's style, uses similar techniques. So most women in anime do have slightly unrealistic neotenous features (although men in most anime series do too, just not as much compared to women), but not enough for it to appear childlike.

    However, some people, possibly people who already had pedophilic tendencies, began to fetishize the neotenous features in anime and pushed them to be exaggerated even more until they ended up looking disturbingly close to children, and this came to be known as "lolis" in anime culture.

    I agree that lolis are disturbing, and I wish they never became a staple of anime. I simply don't see the appeal, and now I have to go out of my way to disassociate with it when I talk about liking anime.

  • I'm an Anime (and Asian Culture) aficionado as well, and the reason for neotenous features is because they're considered cuter, and because cuteness is a part of Japanese culture.

    Asians also tend to exhibit high levels of neoteny, which is why they're perceived as being cuter. It's a possible reason why Asian girls are popular among men; because of this neoteny because it's feminine, while Asian guys may not be as popular among women because they prefer masculinity in their men, and neoteny isn't masculine.

    So because cuteness is part of their culture, and the Japanese population wants to better Identify with those characters, they are drawn more to resemble their neotenous selves and to pertain to their culture.
