If you're not hot ( = top 5% looking guys), just forget it bros. It's easier for you guys to get sex trough relationships and you know how fuked and demanding that is (for you) lol. I always laugh (as do women) when I see a not-hot champ approaching females around, while knowing the he doesn't have a slightest chance against handsome and tall dudes. Do you think that women invest all that time and effort with make up so a some quasi-good looking champ can approach then? Of course not, and it only gets worse when an average joe shows up (average = synonym for repulsion in woman's book) let alone some ugly bro "showing his skills" who makes him self look like a complete idiot. Seriously, it's all about hot guys and that's why women not only are disinterested when non-hotties approach them, but instead they get insulted, particularly if it happens in front of her friends - by doing this you're lowering her value, e. g. if she's approached by shit looking guys, she is a shit plus you're boosting her ego when she wholeheartedly cancels you. If you don't get me, just ask woman who she had a casual sex with and if she'd be honest, she'll tell you it a was an eye candy guy and that's top 5% male, aka hot.

@Anonmyous: unfortunately hook-ups are not the only way of casual sex. Many girls practice the fuck-friend routine, "almost" a boy friend routine and some of them even lie to others (and themselves too) that they're in relationship, while they're obviously not. I'm pretty sure you were at least once in one of the mentioned scenarios.
